Listener Watch Party Kentucky Game: Bearden Hill Fieldhouse 8PM Tip Beeee Theeeeeeere #TellAFriend

TODD COFFEE POURS A STRONG CUP OF TRUTH: You probably know by now that Kentucky plays tonight against LSU while the Vols aren't in action until Wednesday. That's no accident. Basilio Show listener extraordinaire Todd Coffey unveiled the stone cold truth that every team Kentucky plays in Saturday games plays the Wednesday before while Kentucky plays on Tuesday's EVERY week. Think about that for a second. That's damn disgraceful. Kentucky gets an EXTRA DAY OF PREPARATION every week in SEC play.

Kentucky Fans will claim that this is because Kentucky plays on Big Tuesday for TV purposes. Well the SEC plays four games on Tuesday with only 3 played on Wednesday. Even at that somehow every team Kentucky faces on Saturday manages to play on Wednesday ALL SEASON LONG. I'M TALKING THE ENTIRE SEASON. EVERY GAME!!! Can you make that up. Todd Coffee just poured you the strongest brew you've ever gotten a whiff of.

This Tennessee Team Is The Truth! Last year's team only had 13 wins by double digits. All season. This year's team already got 19

This Tennessee Team Is The Truth Part II: The 2008 team, who won a record 31 games, only had 15 wins by double digits. This team already has 19.

Did I Overreact In Saying That Tennessee Can only lose two games the rest of the way including the SEC Tournament?

Beano believes the Vols will be a #1 seed if they go 7-2 in their last 9. Maybe Beano's right. Then again, I don't trust college basketball. And that was my main point yesterday. I'm ready to tear Kentucky's season down Saturday night and make the SEC race a mute (sic) point. I love when callers will say mute for moot every once in a while. That's some gooder stuff right there.

Beano's Keys To Winning Saturday:

Can't Play In Spurts and win there.

Can't let somebody else pound the glass and win there.

These Guys Are Fearless: That's what gives me the most hope for a 2-0 start. The players on this Tennessee team are just different. I'm not ready to lose yet. Are you?

Kentucky Fans Could Crack Saturday Night: Think about that for a second. What if Tennessee goes in there and starts like they did on road at Nashville? Those mouth breathers and knuckle draggers know Tennessee IS the program they want to be this year. Most of their fans would trade sides with Tennessee this year. And I'm not exaggerating in saying that.

Tennessee has won 7 times in Lexington in 52 Years: Did you read that? Yes, you did. And it's amazing to consider that Tennessee has been that bad there. Tennessee has won 7 times in Lexington and yet Tennessee during the Ernie and Bernie days was unbeatable there. Tennessee won 3 in a row from 76-79. What you say????

Tennessee has five wins in Cur Rup Arena: Since the arena opened in 1976 it has been a house of horrors for the Vols. Yet this team is different. They're the best team in school history. If that's the case, they should be able to join those King and Grunfeld teams by being able to win there two years in a row. Tennessee NEVER does that in basketball. Then again Kentucky beat us twice in a row in foo.....Oh, never mind.....

For A Top 5 Team, Virginia Kinda Stinks: But don't tell AP folks that. Last night at UNC they had 51 points 33 minutes into that game. When you can't score, you can't win when it matters. I don't care how great their defense is. No way they're a top five team in America. Even this year when the game is bereft of true elite teams, Virginia just fails the eye test. Unless of course you're Kevin O'Neill. I'll bet he lusts after the way they play. And I love KO but sheesh. Virginia plays some ugly ass offense.

Oh I Know Virginia Won At UNC Last Night But Here's The Point: UNC is an OK college basketball team. But they're good enough to be tied for #2 in the ACC. The top two teams in the SEC are better than the top two in the ACC. In fact, the top 3 teams in the SEC are better than the top 3 in that league. Don't believe me? Let's play it off.

Basilio's SEC ACC Challenge:

Tennessee vs Duke

Kentucky Vs Virginia

LSU Vs UNC

Even if you give the the first game to the ACC, the other two matchups surely would go the SEC's way. And today I would pick Tennessee over Duke on a neutral floor.

Non NET Neutrality? I don't trust that metric and believe it will be used to perhaps screw the Vols when the time comes. Tennessee must keep winning to hopefully avoid this fate.

Kentucky On A Losing Streak? BREAKING: Five-star guard Anthony Edwards, the #2 basketball prospect in the nation, just committed to Georgia over Kentucky. The SEC appears to be taking over college basketball, too.

Huh??? what????

'Kentucky Is Billy Carter Of Regal Society': A wonderful line by Beano.....How is Kentucky not ranked ahead of Virginia? Virginia looked awful in their loss to Duke yet stayed right in the top 5 at #4. I don't get that at all. Billy Carter is a great line by Beano because when you watch the college hoops smart set, Kentucky is the program they have to tolerate. They don't celebrate them, they tolerate them. Stop and think about that for a second because it's true.

It was cool seeing Michael Jordan and Buzz Peterson sitting courtside last night in Chapel Hill for the Virginia game. Bernard King needs to make the scene in Rupp Saturday night. I hope Tennessee can make this happen.

Vols Stay at #1: It's Duke's world and we're all living in it and while the Vols lead for the AP #1 spot has been eroded, Tennessee remains the top team in the land. Perhaps Throaty had a point when he said that Tennessee could've really used the voters to bump the Vols to #2 for some extra umph on the road. Then again this team won't have any problem letting it out on Saturday.

FINALLY: Of Course Jimmy Haslam Signed Kareem Hunt: No offense to Jimmy Haslam but the memo he's gotten from life is that he's above it all. It was almost predictable that Haslam the genius that spearheaded the Schiano to Tennessee hire and the master of the rebate would be the NFL owner to stand tall for a beater of women. That's pretty rich.

Final Four

Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. More than every 2023 NBA Finals game and more than every 2023 World Series game. ESPN has had the rights to NBA games since 2002. But the Final Four game between Iowa and UConn was the networks most-watched basketball game, men’s or women’s, pro or collegiate EVER.... [more]

Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
