We Got Us A Coach

Welcome to Thursday!!! It should be Jeremy Pruitt day on UT's campus.

Wednesday was all about Jeremy Pruitt in Big Orange Country. When night fell he emerged as the favorite to become Tennessee's next coach. This would put Pruitt in select company of the past couple of weeks. The following guys have emerged as favorites over the past two weeks.

Dan Mullen: He's at Florida now. Greg ShiaNo: He's stuck at Herbie U Jeff Brohm: Stuck at Purdue Dave Doeren: Raise at NC State Mike Leach: Stuck in Great Northwest Jeremy Pruitt: ??????

Click to YMCA of East Tennessee!
Now, can Tennessee get Pruitt over finish line? If everything goes according to plan here, he should be introduced at a press conference today.

We unpacked a potential Pruitt hire at Tennessee with veteran Bama beat writer Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News. Here's what Hurt had to say about Pruitt.

'100 % football guy Àmazing recruiter He's learned under the best Probst. Fisher. Saban Alpha dog
Not afraid to stand up to Fisher or Saban.
Has suggested changes that have worked.
He's a different personality than Lane. Look at changes Bama's made. From slow immoblle guys to faster guys.

Take Minkah Fitzpatrick for instance - they have him playing a multitude of positions.

He will have no trouble assembling a staff.

Lapoi. Would he come to Tennessee if he could get DC offer here?

Brother Bill Oliver was a mentor of his and speaks highly of him.

So many guys go onto become HC's off that staff.

Jimbo wasn't in Bama . He won't be as verbose as Jimbo. He'll be more relatable to players and a better Recruiter. Jeremy won't be as much about Jeremy as Jimbo is about Jimbo.

Sports Clips has made them tougher. Jeremy will bring a toughness to Tennessee in the same way. No paper tigers allowed under him.

Enrollment is close to 40k with national SAT scores. Bama is on the map like never before.

Where Tennessee is. Jeremy is young and energetic. Not the slickest guy at the press conference.

But he would be the best guy for the job.

Pros to Jeremy Pruitt: Could assemble a scary staff perhaps consisting of: Kevin Shear is a monster recruiter Lapoi is a monster recruiter Rocker is a monster recruiter Reverend Hugh Freeze...Monster recruiter.

Another Plus..... Do Kirby & Pruitt have heat??

Pruitt Gets Results In Recruiting... Rico McGraw to GA Jalen Ramsey to FSU. Ramsey tweeted out his support of Pruitt for FSU Head Coach before they hired Willie Taggart.

Does The Next UT Head Coaching Hire??? Lure Austin Thomas back home where he belongs? Thomas is the current GM of LSU's Football Program. Thomas has Tennessee ties. A UT grad. Dad former Board of Trustees member. Oh and he's wildly talented and would be a terrific asset here in Big Orange Country.

78 Year old coaching legend Bill 'Brother' Oliver joined the Tony Basilio Show yesterday testifying for Jeremy Pruitt. Oliver basically had a hand in Pruitt's career as a coach and a player. What follows are highlights and thoughts from Brother Oliver on Pruitt.

Click to The Garza Law Firm
Bill 'Brother' Oliver On Jeremy Pruitt: Great instincts as a player. Always had a tremendous Football mind. Eat breathes and sleeps Football. He elected to go to MTSU but I knew he could help us at Bama. And we offered him an opportunity to give it a try. He sat out a year. He absorbed everything we did.

He understood offense which makes you a better defensive coach.

He was a nickel guy and strong and weakside guy for him.

Person took my place didn't understand how to put 11 people together. Jeremy was Coaching as a player. He had the courage to step up there.

He absorbed everything he's seen.

He went back and coached kids in high school - this made him a better teacher. He's demanding.'

All comments from Bill 'Brother' Oliver.

Brother Oliver's accent was wonderfully appreciated by me.

Griffin's Three Pointers!!!

Griffin's Three Pointers
'Griffin’s 3 Pointers- Lipscomb

1. Nashville Influence- Seven members of this year’s Lipscomb Bisons squad are from the Nashville area including three starters. Four returning starters are back from last year's team that went 20-13. This is Coach Casey Alexander’s best team he has coached in his sixth year at the helm. ASUN media selected to finish second behind Florida Gulf Coast “Dunk City”.

2. Strong Pre-Season Schedule- 6-3 record with two notable losses to Alabama and Texas. Swept Belmont in the “Battle Of The Boulevard”. Last year, the Bisons led at UT at the half and scored 58 points only to lose 92-77.

3. Matchup Concerns- Returnee Junior Garrison Mathews lead the way last season against UT with 28 points. Mathews last game scored 26 points in a win against Belmont.
2018 Lou Henson Award preseason watch list, unanimous pre-season All- ASUN Team.

In addition, I am looking forward to seeing one of the kids I coached in Travel Ball, Kenny Cooper, who is a sophomore and will he matched up against Jordan Bone. These two have banged heads many times in the past while growing up in Nashville and know each other really well!!!

Final Thought: It's been 10 years. If we have to wait a couple more hours to hire a real football coach, so be it. Phillip Fulmer is going to do right by Tennessee. I can feel it coming. Jeremy Pruitt is a REAL football coach.

Book that.

FAQ's Asked Of Tony Per Our Relaunch Announcement:

Q: Tony, you didn't say anything about your daily show yesterday. Will you continue to do this?

A: Absolutely. I'm looking forward to year #24 with you.

Q: Tony, you used the word 'subscribe'. What Am I subscribing too?

A: Great question. 'Subscribe' is a misnomer. What you actually are doing if you choose to help us monthly (and we need this for budgeting reasons) is actually acting as a patron. The goal is to keep the content (ALL CONTENT, from postgame offerings to various podcasts) free for all.

Q: So, if I'm not subscribing and I'm already reading this, why give?

A: Because you value the content and our contribution to the market and you want to help us keep this stuff free for everybody.

Q: Are you going to beat us up for money all the time here?

A: Absolutely not. I will bring this up a few times heading into the football season as we attempt to meet our financial goals and create new programming. I'll also mention it in the post-game format as well as the regional programming. I will not however wear you out with this. Either you feel the need to help us or you don't. This is why I'm taking today to field some question I received after day one.

Q: What happens if this doesn't generate the revenue you're seeking?

A: We will scale back our online offerings accordingly. The blog itself could even disappear. I really don't want this to happen but will be forced to spend my time in the most profitable way necessary. That's why we're having the conversation. All my cards are on the table here.

Q: Where can I find these new podcasts, like that X-Cast?

A: Click on "Podcast" wherever you see it on the site, and it will take you to our Podcast page.

Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
