What a Looooooooooong 2017 it's been. After yesterday 16 weeks have seemed like 16 centuries for the living Vol fan. After going 4-8 in the football season, John Currie and the HOH are now 0-4 in their search for a coach. The losses in the coaching search are mounting.

Click to The Garza Law Firm
The Tennessee Tote Board: Dan Mullen Loss Greg SchiaNO Loss David Cutcliffe Loss Mike Gundy Loss ???? ???? ????

How Much More Can We Take? Short answer. Not another day. This is getting old and quickly. Then again if the prudent thing is to wait, then I'm willing to do that. If this means waiting on a pro coach, then so be it.

House Of Haslam Needs Shine: After Sunday plus yesterday's developments in that Chattanooga courtroom, the HOH needs something great to happen and SOON. Now, you have to look for this story in the local press but it doesn't mean it's not significant. Jimmy Haslam has some 'splainin' to do. Read the comments in this story below. They are rich!!!! Link

The Word Out On Tennessee? Despite what ESPN would have you believe, this has NOTHING to do with Sunday's fiasco. Jimmy Haslam and HOH coupled with John Currie have helped create a Tennessee job situation that's unattractive. You would have to try to make Tennessee an unattractive job and create the internal mess around the program. Despite the best efforts of UT's 'administration' Tennessee is still one of 18 places in the country where you can realistically win a National Championship.

Stand Up And Be Counted: We are the school of countless All Americans and a tradition unsurpassed. Our fan base is rabid and vital. We count. This place matters. You would have to try to screw this thing up as badly as they have. I feel terribly for this fan base. So horrible to be in this spot today.

The Haslams aren't the only one under the gun here!!!

Manning Needs A Fresh Coat Too: First Peyton Manning got caught in the VFL crossfire when he didn't line up behind David Blackburn or Phillip Fulmer for AD. Then he completely stepped in it by attempting to sell the SchiaNO debacle to VFL's on Sunday. Not to mention the stain Sunday may leave on him in the eyes of Vol Faithful. Manning WAS the point person for Tennessee on the Gundy deal.

Click to Performance Medicine!
A source close to this said Manning was involved in wooing Gundy 'personally'. Landing Gundy would've been another great win for the Vols and Manning. Now Manning has to come through in the big one for his school. Fair or not, he's in this now. He needs to step up for the person he believes in....And NOW!!!! Even if he has to go against the House of Haslam. It's time for ALL of us to stand up including Peyton Mannning.

Click to YMCA of East Tennessee!
John Currie Needs A Break: Would somebody that won't piss this fan base off and drive us off a cliff please take this job!!! John Currie is dangling in the wind before your very eyes. Poor feller. Could he be handling this anymore poorly?

Who's Next?

Jeff Brohm: Initially Brohm was lukewarm toward Tennessee as the Vols approached him post SchiaNO. Do the Vols go back in on him now with all guns a blazing? Landing Brohm at this point would be getting Bruce Pearl (back in 2005) lucky for Tennessee. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

A Wildcard That Makes Great Sense: Every VFL I speak with loves the idea of Kevin Steele coming back to Knoxville. Here's a little fun fact for you about Steele. He was almost the Defensive Coordinator at Tennessee under Derek Dooley. Now he may have a shot at the big job. Auburn's defensive coordinator is smokin' hot after masterminding the Tigers yuuuuge win over Bama in the Iron Bowl. Steele could put together a so called Tennessee super staff if he received the call to return to Knoxville. Here's some information on Steele.

'Steele is from Dillon, SC. He and John Chavis were teammates in HS and at UT. Kevin coached for Johnny Majors twice. In addition, he coached for Pat Jones, Tom Osborne, Bobby Bowden, Nick Saban twice, Dabo Swinney, Les Miles and Gus Malzahn. In the NFL, he worked for former Tennessee assistant Dom Capers at Carolina. He has been renowned as an ELITE recruiter for his entire career. He is also one of the top defensive coordinators in the country. His only head coaching experience was an unfortunate stop at Baylor where took a very tough job from 1999-2002.'

The more I think about Kevin Steele, the more I think I would rather have him than Dave Doeren. In a way it would be wonderful to see a veteran Tennessee guy get this shot to restore some pride back in the Tennessee Football name. I really believe that all hands would be on deck if Steele was given an opportunity here. I'm starting to warm up to Kevin Steele as UT's next head coach. Especially over a guy like Dave Doeren.

Dave Doeren: NC State. I really think this could be where Tennessee goes next if the Gundy deal breaks down. Let that sink in. That's like falling off a cliff. It's not exactly Jon Gruden to Dan Mullen, but it's certainly in the same mountain range.

Here's Doeren's resume. Guy is from Kansas. Link. He was about to get fired.

Lane Train? Could that happen here? There are boosters beginning to make noise about this and a few folks at UT that would like to see this happen. If you want Lane Kiffin and Gundy doesn't accept UT's offer, make your voice known. Stranger things have happened already in this cycle. I mean what could be weirder than Sunday????Hiring Lane Kiffin!!!! Of course the HOH and Currie wouldn't go for it but at this point who cares what those people want? The last time I checked, their record in this deal is 0-4 coming off a 4-8 season. Can we please feel good about something?

Final Thought: I hope you slept better than I did last night. I sure will be glad when we land a football coach. Let's hire Kevin Steele and bring Tee Martin back and feel GREAT about Tennessee football again. Or let's rehire Lane Kiffin and swing for the fences.

See you today at 11a Eastern.

FAQ's Asked Of Tony Per Our Relaunch Announcement:

Q: Tony, you didn't say anything about your daily show yesterday. Will you continue to do this?

A: Absolutely. I'm looking forward to year #24 with you.

Q: Tony, you used the word 'subscribe'. What Am I subscribing too?

A: Great question. 'Subscribe' is a misnomer. What you actually are doing if you choose to help us monthly (and we need this for budgeting reasons) is actually acting as a patron. The goal is to keep the content (ALL CONTENT, from postgame offerings to various podcasts) free for all.

Q: So, if I'm not subscribing and I'm already reading this, why give?

A: Because you value the content and our contribution to the market and you want to help us keep this stuff free for everybody.

Q: Are you going to beat us up for money all the time here?

A: Absolutely not. I will bring this up a few times heading into the football season as we attempt to meet our financial goals and create new programming. I'll also mention it in the post-game format as well as the regional programming. I will not however wear you out with this. Either you feel the need to help us or you don't. This is why I'm taking today to field some question I received after day one.

Q: What happens if this doesn't generate the revenue you're seeking?

A: We will scale back our online offerings accordingly. The blog itself could even disappear. I really don't want this to happen but will be forced to spend my time in the most profitable way necessary. That's why we're having the conversation. All my cards are on the table here.

Q: Where can I find these new podcasts, like that X-Cast?

A: Click on "Podcast" wherever you see it on the site, and it will take you to our Podcast page.

Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
