Thursday......Hall of Shame Blog
Posted: Thu, April 21st, 2016, 5:22 AM • Permalink
It's Thursday. And I'm all in on Keeneland. The long range weather forecast is calling for a PERFECT day in Lexington. If you paid your money, we are leaving Sunday morning at 8:30 am from Ingles off Emory Road in Powell. It's going to be an awesome time! I have 10 slots left. First come, first served basis. If you paid, you're cool. You're in. Good to go. I'd love to have you. Going to be a wonderful time. E-Mail me to reserve a spot.

Had a great conversation with Dr. Sean Sinclair yesterday regarding recruiting. His conclusion is that, though the new car smell has worn off for Butch Jones and Tennessee, there's no need to panic. Sinco believes that 2 of the 3 recent commitments are legitimate prospects and none are projects. Tennessee finds out tomorrow about DT Eric Crosby out of Virginia. Ironically, it's Tennessee and Virginia Tech for him. Indications I'm getting are that Tennessee won't be shocked if Crosby commits to Tech tomorrow. In fact you could say they believe he's Hokie bound. If this comes to pass, Dr. Sinclair doesn't believe this is going to be a tremendous loss as he thinks this young guy is close to peaking already athletically.

Seth Stokes is flat out getting it done in this piece for Gridironnow.com. At Tennessee, 2106 is about leadership. Link

'Tony to illustrate what a "cluster f&$!" this new hall of fame is, offer a prize to the first caller who can correctly identify these five people and what their contribution was that made them worthy of HOF consideration. Bud Fields, Nancy Lay, Helen Watson, Howard Almond, and Terry Crawford. Don't mean to disparage these folks, but UT would have them in a HOF fame and not Doug Dickey, General Neyland and Candace Parker. Makes no sense. I appreciate you talking about this for the past few weeks before it happened. Doesn't anybody care?

Tim, Nashville'

Using your term the HOF is such a cluster XXXX that Peyton Manning refused to come to Saturday night's ceremony, though he was in the area. My understanding is that Manning wasn't thrilled with the exception that was made for him and Al Wilson. In case you didn't follow the fiasco, UT, in their infinite wisdom decided on a cut off of 1990 for this first class with the exception of Manning, Wilson, and Allen Houston. My understanding is that Manning wanted nothing to do with something that exalted him above his teammates. Hello UT. Could you have screwed this up any more from pillar to post? If I didn't know any better, I would believe Dave Hart is trying to sabotage this place. I continue to wonder where the leadership is, while marveling at the lack of testicular fortitude from those with money and influence in this town. Where is the outrage? Doesn't anybody care? Is anybody home?

I said this on the air and I'm going to say it here. Those of you coming to football games expecting to see an improved playing surface in late October through the end of the season need to understand something. Dave Hart has been telling sources of mine behind the scenes that the field issues are a "media creation." Therefore, UT has been mostly on a stand down mode with regards to the field. Don't believe the hype. Believe what you see. And what you'll see in the fall will more than likely be the same chewed up field. Why? Because there wasn't a problem. And remember, Dave Hart is the same guy that refused the offer of free help from UT's internationally regarded professors of Turf Grass Science & Management Program. Dave Hart is literally running amok on that campus. Makes me sick.

'Tony,

Man, sorry about your Eagles. What a terrible trade. This will be felt for years to come. It’s really so bad on so many levels….getting duped by the Browns not the least of those (the Browns need a qb worse, makes you wonder what they didn’t see in Goff/Wentz).

As Vince Lombardi would say….”What the hell is goin’ on out there!!”

They’re overpaying 2 qb’s already

Bradford – 2yrs, $35 mil…$22 mil guaranteed.

C. Daniel – 3yrs, $21 mil…$12 mil guaranteed.

Better luck next decade.

Kevin

PS – You can always hop on the Raiders bandwagon…..VFLs Reggie and Raleigh McKenzie, Joey Clinkscales and Mickey Marvin leading the way in the front office! Go Vols!'

Kevin: It's wonderful anytime you get fleeced by the most hapless franchise in perhaps all of professional sports. Cleveland is horrible and has been since their rebirth. They are a laughing stock, yet they abused Howie Roseman (aka The Paperboy) and my Eagles yesterday. Those two QB's at the top of that draft better be great because 10 players were traded for 2. Makes no sense to me. Solid franchises trade down and collect picks. The Eagles are a dumpster fire. Pisses me off.

Oh, and to the offer to follow the Raiders. I can't do it. I'm not the type to jump on and off a bandwagon. I've only done that once in my life with my Phil-Mets. Come to think about it, that's actually working out pretty well. You might be onto something. Perhaps I will declare my fan free agency.

Al Brown was tremendous on the air yesterday. We got off on Kobe Bryant his place in Laker lore. I'm with Beano who declared that not only is Kobe not a top 5 player of all time, he's not even a top 5 Laker of all time. My top 5 best Lakers ever.

1. Kareem: Sky Hook. Look it up.
2. Magic: Awesome 5 tool player
3. Elgin Baylor: Middle name Gay (counts these days) 8 NBA Finals
4. Jerry West: He's the NBA logo
5. Wilt Chamberlain: Any team he plays for, he's in their top 5.

Sorry....No soup for Kobe. Just because you're the latest doesn't mean you're the greatest.

Today's theme.... NBA is going to allow sponsorship on uniforms. There's no turning back...Sports will never be the same. So put some thought to this....Who would be good sponsors for your favorite and least favorite teams?

In honor of the Eagles trade, I'm thinking Depends, Tums, Brioschi, and Preparation H would be a good place to start.

We will kick this topic around today on the show.

It's been a borderline season to forget for Tennessee Tennis, but they didn't quit at the SEC Tournament. Survive and advance. Link

Interesting twist on the satellite camp controversy that's not going away any time soon. Link

Cowboys...LOL. Link

Final Thought: We need a slogan for 2016. Can you help. I still haven't found one that rings the bell.

Final Four
Posted: Sun, Apr 7th, 12:12 PM
Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. More than every 2023 NBA Finals game and more than every 2023 World Series game. ESPN has had the rights to NBA games since 2002. But the Final Four game between Iowa and UConn was the networks most-watched basketball game, men’s or women’s, pro or collegiate EVER.... [more]

Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]
Connecticut Game Preview

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
