Though he's injured this spring, don't sleep on Darrin Kirkland Jr. Link

Masters is such a special sporting event. In an age of over commercialization, they refuse to participate. If you ever get the chance, please do yourself a sporting favor and GO! I can't express this enough to you. It is truly a little slice of sports heaven.

Today's beginning of the Masters has me thinking of a topic for the show today.

What's the most important item on your sports bucket list?

In the spirit of the Master's what are other great sporting events you've been to that you would like to recommend to the listeners in our radio family?

Is there a particular venue or niche sport you would like to turn me or someone else onto? Here's your chance. Tell us about it!

Here are your Master's odds. Link

'Tariq Owen's dad was concerned that his son might be "recruited over."

What does that even mean? He is concerned that Coach Barnes might try to find someone to compete for Owen's job???

So, in other words, Tariq was supposed to be handed the job. Uh, ok...

Good luck with that.

That's sad if that was the situation and attitude the father influenced.

I'm guessing Barnes is probably very content to have another scholarship slot freed up.

Mid State Heath'

I like Tariq Owens. He didn't sign here to play for Rick Barnes and doesn't strike me as a Rick Barnes type of big man. Quite honestly, he doesn't have enough meat on his bones. Nor will be able to gain enough weight to hold up defensively in Barnes' defensive system. Owens moving on to St John’s makes great sense to me. I wish him well. I hope he develops into a fine player there. I appreciated his effort while he was here. As for Mr. Owen's comments, he makes a great point. I believe TO would've seen his minutes diminish through time if Rick Barnes is able to recruit up front the way he intends on doing so.

'College basketball has come and gone for the season. It's now time to turn attentions to the NBA playoff chase and baseball.

1. The willingness to pay in the neighborhood of half a million dollars for an assistant coach indicates a new level of commitment for UT basketball. It's a welcome and refreshing change.

2. As expected, Rick Barnes has assembled a quality staff. This group will elevate the level of Tennessee's recruiting in short order.

3. Bo Ryan should be applauded for speaking his mind after the national final. Too many coaches measure their words to protect their plastic images.

4. The media double standard regarding Duke and Mike Krzyzewski is absurd. I guess one and dones are fine as long as they are playing under the moral guidance of Saint K.

5. Will Wade now gets the chance to prove the hype is warranted. VCU is an essentially idiot proof program.

6. Brad Stevens isn't getting enough credit. He is doing a magnificent job of trying to drag a moribund roster into the playoffs.

7. The race for the final spot in the West is fascinating. The only bad thing is that either Russell Westbrook or Anthony Davis will be done at the conclusion of the regular season.

8. It would behoove the Grizzlies to get back on track in the last ten days of the regular season. Heading into the Western Conference playoffs in a state of malaise is a recipe for disaster.

9. Few things awaken my inner child like Opening Day. There's something reassuring about having baseball back for the next six months.

Keith'

So many wonderful points there Keith. Where do I start? Despite what UT is claiming, I believe the original figure as reported by Jerry Meyer of 24/7sport.com. That guy didn't just pull that amount out of thin air. I also will remind you that he's been out in front on Tennessee reporting the past couple of weeks since Barnes has been in play in Knoxville. Therefore, Jerry Meyer had rock solid information. If UT wants to leak through their media arms that they are only paying $350 k for Lanier, fine but I'm not buying. I believe they've included a bunch of incentives and camp payments into his deal to get him to the half million dollar figure. It's officially basketball time around here.

As to your item #8 Keith, the Grizzlies got a win over New Orleans last night. Jarnelle Stokes actually had 4 points and 3 rebounds in the win. Good for him.

Avery Johnson is thinking Final Four. Is this comedy? Link

Albert Pujols...Remember him...He hit his 521st career homerun last night. This ties him with Willie McCovey, Frank Thomas, and Ted Williams for 18th on the all-time list. I believe Pujols is clean as a whistle and country strong and unlike many of the fake sluggers, of the past couple of decades, he's a living, breathing HOF baseball player.

If he keeps doing stuff like this, Jim Harbaugh is going to make a fan out of me. Link

Deadspin exists for stories like this one. Outdoor couches outlawed in Morgantown. Wow. Link

I hate the F ING NCAA. Horrible group of people. Link

If Tennessee didn't land Barnes, this was my choice for the Vols job. Link

Why doesn't the damn NBA do something to help college hoops? How 'bout a minimum age requirement? Or how about adopting MLB's policy for incoming players? Mark Cuban is bitching because college hoops his 'hurting the NBA.' That's rich. Link

Vols have huge baseball series with Mizzou this weekend beginning tonight in Knoxville. A sweep sure would hit the spot. Get out and support these guys if you think about it.

Have you noticed how Tiger Woods looks like somebody let the air out of him? Why has Rory transformed himself to look like an outside lb? Why are some of these golfers obsessed with bulk? I don't get it. Link

Jeff Van Gundy is the best. He doesn't care. Augusta was in the cross hairs last night. Link

Marcus Mariota was in Nashville last night. Are the Titans really thinking about dealing that pick to the Chargers for Rivers and another first? Would you do that? Is Mettenberger the Titans QB of the future? Can they really pass up the opportunity to grab Mariota? Going to be interesting at the top of the draft in the next 3 weeks.

LOTS to discuss today with Mike Huguenin. Link

Memo to top players in major college sports. Don't sign the NLI. The schools will still want you and you will have options. Why sign? Link

Jonathan Papplebon is a truth telling fool. Link

When is great too great? If you found yourself failing to watch this year's Women's Title Game, you're not alone. Ratings are way off. Too much Geno. Link
