When you tell me what I want to believe, you will get your article featured on here two days in a row. Link

Not only that but we will talk with Barrett Sallee today and ask him if he's just pandering for clicks by picking the Vols outright this weekend. Look, I can see Tennessee staying in the game this weekend. In fact, I expect them to do just that. Win the game outright? That's another kettle of fish all together. I'm not going there.

David Greene is a class act! It was great catching up with him yesterday. Dr Sean Sinclair had a great point when he said that a UT win Saturday at Athens could be akin to Georgia's win at Tennessee back in 2001 when Mark Richt's era at GA became legitimate. A win Saturday could perhaps help launch the Butch Jones era. Greene admitted that UGA was an underachiever under Jim Donnan only to begin to believe during the early Richt era. It was an interesting conversation for sure.

Anthony Dasher with UGAsports.com told me he believes this game will go the wire 'like a classic SEC football game.' Ya gotta believe! He does like Georgia in a close one. It would be refreshing to see Tennessee take the Dawgs to the wire. You have to be in it to win it as they say.

Tennessee will see perhaps the top prospects in the NFL Draft in coming weeks. What else is new? Link

He's backtracking but Emmitt Smith isn't impressed with Jeff Driskell. Link

Mike Huguenin joins me off the top at 11am for our usual Thursday chat. He's really great! So blessed to have him! Huggy breaks down the coaching hot seat today. He predicted Utah over Michigan last week and believes Hoke is done at Michigan. Isn't it time Tennessee pushes Will Mushchamp over the ledge? And damn....Look at Charlie Weis @ Kansas. That dude is stealing money. Link

What are the biggest surprises of the season? Link

The SEC is a highly offensive league. When will Tennessee join the party? I hope soon and very soon. Link

After being torched by Alabama, Will Muschamp is shuffling his secondary. Link

Vol Colonel was styling and profiling at last night's film study session. He was dressed in orange from head to toe and even had the Orange sea captain had on. Great look on him! Here's Vol Colonel's thoughts on the days ahead for the Vols.

Vol Colonel
Our Volunteers open up SEC play between the hedges down in Athens. Georgia is currently a 17 pt favorite over the Vols. I really believe we'll be in this football game late into the 4th quarter and will have a chance to pull the upset. The obvious key to having a shot in this game will be curbing the running attack of the Bulldogs. That's a task that's probably easier said than done, but I also believe it's a challenge we're up for. We played these guys off their feet last year in Knoxville, so our guys know they can play with Georgia.

I also think the noon kickoff benefits us. You just don't have the same rowdy crowd you would have if this were a late afternoon or a night kickoff. I think a big key for us in this game will be giving Justin Worley time to throw the football. I think there are plays to be made in passing game this week. While Georgia is very good up front and at the linebacker position, their secondary looks shaky to me.

I really don't think they match up well with our receivers and that's taking into account we're without the services of Von Pearson and more than likely Josh Smith. That's really all of the thoughts I have right now on this game.

Oh, one other thing. It was really great sitting down with the rest of Team Basilio as we broke down Georgia last night at our weekly film study session! Tomorrow you will see here at Tonybasilio.com what the tape on the Dawgs told us. I think you will enjoy this. If I had one wish it's that you could've been there to see the look on Basilio's face when he lost yet another argument to Beano and Brocky. BTW, Dr Sean Sinclair is top notch!

Now for some random thoughts and rants on what I'm seeing and feeling around the conference and the nation.

Lane Kiffin might be a punk and a clown as Tony says, but he sure can develop quarterbacks and call plays.

Mississippi State is the most physical team I've seen all year. They have some horses on the offensive and defensive line.

Miss St. QB Dak Prescott might just be the best QB in the SEC.

Will Muschamp is dead man walking at Florida. It will be a damn shame if we can't beat this guy in what will likely be his last trip to Neyland Stadium as head coach of the Gators.

The SEC West is the best division in the history of college football since conferences were split into divisions.

Could the SEC West champ really be decided in the Egg Bowl?

Could LSU finish last in the West this year?

Pat Forde said in one of his column's before the season, that new Florida offensive coordinator Kurt Roper was the best coordinator in the SEC. Hey Pat, I hope you live in Colorado because marijuana is still illegal in most states.

For my money there's not a better QB in the land than Baylor's Bryce Petty.

Where are all of those national media members who said the PAC 12 was better than the SEC this year?...oh wait, I know where they're at. They're all over at Pat Forde's house sharing a big bag of Doritos.

Is Marshall the little engine that could?..I think they have a shot at going undefeated.

If Todd Gurley is the best RB in the nation, Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon isn't far behind.

The way Charlie Strong continues to suspend players, It sure makes you wonder what kind of program Mack Brown was running out at Texas.

East Carolina sure cemented the fact that North Carolina is a basketball school. Hanging 70 on the Heels. Good Golly Miss Molly!

Brady Hoke is on his way out in Ann Arbor, if getting shutout by Notre Dame wasn't bad enough, losing to Utah in the Big House was.

Shameis Winston, now that name says it all!

My last thought and rant goes out to Jimmy Cheek and Dave Hart - I hope we're taking the Pride of The Southland to Georgia with us. I know that seems foolish to wonder or to ask, but after they penny pinched and didn't send the band out to Oklahoma, It leaves one to wonder. Heck, I heard we could've sent one of our pep bands out there for around 30k, but they were even to cheap to do that. I thought that was embarrassing and I really hope that doesn't happen again. We're better than that!

Well that's a wrap, folks. Remember, you can follow me on Twitter @TheVolColonel

Have a Great Week and Go Big Orange!

Your Vol Colonel

If you consider yourself a college football fan, go out of your way to watch East Carolina and Shane Carden. This guy is the truth! What a great QB. Serious competitor. Throwback. Can really sling it. Reminds me of Brett Favre at Southern Miss back in early 90's.

Some terrific Thursday Night football once again this week. UCLA @ Arizona State will be interesting. It will certainly be more interesting than NY Giants @ Washington. The REDSKINS will crush the Giants tonight. Watch and see.

Vandy Joe checks in two days in a row. Don't you love America?

'Greetings Again Tony!
No, there was no drinking game going on last night;just a little of the cuff fun with the Dean of Sports Radio in Knoxville!

Tried to call the show this morning off the top but you had the guy from Georgia on talking about this week's game with the Vols. He had a few interesting things to say. I do agree that if the Vols can stay within two scores they ought to feel proud. Loading the box against Gurley will only work so long. He's probably your Heisman winner this year unless he gets hurt. I'll call one for you off the top--first play; play action fake to Gurley & a bomb to a wideout of Richt's choice! Don't believe it; you better expect the unexpected. Just a thought. Can hear Munson drivin that hob nail boot!!!!!
Wondering what Fulmer, Dooley & Kiffin would have done with Paulk if faced with what happened. Jones did the right thing. Just saying some coaches wouldn't though. The Winston thing at FSU is getting sadder & sadder. When are these schools going to take back control of the looney bins. All they do is enable the craziness to continue.

Good luck with Georgia this weekend. I'll be doing something other than watching the boat racing event which this week is traveling to Commonwealth Stadium.

I'm celebrating my Dodgers winning another division title today! Love ya Blue! Postseason baseball is fun but do the Dodgers have enough? Unfortunately, I don't think they'll make it to the big prize this year; pitching past Kershaw & Greinke is a train wreck, hitting is spotty, & just doesn't have the feel like '88 again.

When are your Phils going to return from the dead. They almost remind me of my Black & Gold football coaching guys. They're not doing it so well are they Tony. Guess you'll be rooting on the Pirates, huh. Looks as though the Dodgers are going to catch the Cards again. One & done may be the ticket.

Keep it between the lines Tony!

Vandy Joe'

VJ:

Paulk would've been kicked out by any coach at this point in time. There's no way you can have that going on in any major team sport in our society right now. Zero tolerance.

My Phils are as dead as my Vols are alive. As long as Ruben Amaro Jr (aka Ruin Tomorrow Jr, aka Ruben Amoron Jr) is our GM, the Phillies will be a bottom feeder in the NL. Management is EVERYTHING in professional sports. It's the reason the model organizations win. You don't see the Braves settling, do you? And they spend half the money the Phillies do on payroll. Yet Frank Wren was gone on week before the season ended. I love that.

Speaking of the Dodgers, Clayton Kershaw should be the 4th pitcher post WWII to win the MVP award. Link

Got a new interview up on Book Corner! Great part of this web site that you must explore! I have TONS of interviews up in all subjects. The latest up is an interview with Saul Wisnia who has a wonderful look at Boston's Miracle 2004 season 10 years later. Great stuff here. Give it a listen! Link

Here's a link to the rest of book corner!!!! Great interviews with noted book authors covering tons of subjects! I love to read and I share my passion with you here. If you see a good book, let me know and we'll try and highlight it here! Link

Tony Stewart is in the clear. Kevin Ward was smoked up when he got out of his car. He was apparently higher than a kite. Does this really happen? Do guys get lit up on dope and get behind the wheel of a race car? Sad and incredible story here. Link

These controversies are hurting the NFL's pocketbook. Link

Bill Simmons has become a caricature of himself in recent years. Great writer. Terrible on TV. Very passionate nonetheless. ESPN isn't playing. Or are they? Link

Dack Prescott; Miss State is 'freaky talented' on offense. Link

Phil Simms...Banned in two cities????...Link

Go to a baseball game and catch some leather. Link

Congrats to Jake Reeves! Teaches my boy golf at Fairways and Greens and can really play some golf too! Link

Come eat at Sushi Spot with me today! $5 off the Basilio roll today there. Plus 1/2 off wine and sake. Plus $3 Blue Moon on draft. Yass my brudder and sista.

Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. More than every 2023 NBA Finals game and more than every 2023 World Series game. ESPN has had the rights to NBA games since 2002. Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
