Days like today are great fun for me! Friday's with Beano are always special! When you put Beano with Tony Robinson, how can it possibly get any better than that? It's not humanly possible! Please spread the word for us today about Tony being with us the entire time at Latitude 35. We are going to have a great time with him and he's a really affable Vol! Love that guy. As fun as he was as a player, he's equally approachable and enjoyable in real life. Come on down to Latitude 35 on Market Square to meet the legend.

Why do I love Beano?

RANTING ON COLLEGE ADMINISTRATORS

SINCE WE LAST SPOKE: 4-10-14

WHERE’S DIPIETRO AND WHY DIDN’T CHEEK THINK OF THAT? I pulled the following quotes by new Marquette President Michael Lovell from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel story concerning the Steve Wojciechowski hiring that Tony linked in his April 3rd blog.

"He's committed to be here long-term," Lovell said. "We talked about how we're going to stay here 10 years and build this thing together. I told him how important, particularly at Marquette, basketball is to the university.

That’s the President of the University actively involved in the hiring of a basketball coach. What a concept right? We’ve got a President –whose name is Joe DiPietro in case you were wondering- with fewer sightings than D.B. Cooper and the Loch Ness Monster. Wouldn’t it be nice to return to the Andy Holt/Ed Boling/Joe Johnson days when our President at least acknowledged the fact that success in athletics is actually a good thing in the overall educational process?

Congrats to the young Baseball Vols who picked up their 4th straight win last night and 3rd consecutive SEC victory 5-3 last night at Georgia. After dropping a heartbreaker last Friday night at home to Vandy for their 7th straight loss, Tennessee has caught fire. Baseball is an odd game. If you do enough things consistently, eventually the results will come. Tennessee has rounded into a solid club. Dave Serrano told me he believes his team is in the middle of the pack in the SEC but heading in the right direction. Watch out for the Baby Vols!

All the hay is in the barn on the eve of tomorrow's Orange & White Game. Please remember we are going to be live on your Tonybasilio.com App as soon as the game is over talking about it. Jarnell Stokes will announce his future intentions at a 1pm press conference today. Link More times than not, when an athlete holds a press conference it's not a good sign in terms of him returning to school. If Stokes truly wants to be an NBA player he MUST return next season and transform himself into a face the bucket player with a quality mid range J. 19 year NBA scout Maury Hanks told me several times in the past couple of weeks that he believes Stokes is a mid second round pick at best. And when you saw him on the floor against Michigan it was easy to understand this assessment. Stokes had let some folks in the community know at the top of last week that he was leaning toward returning but the tricky thing with these situations is that it only takes one person tell you what you want to hear to jump. If he does go, I wish him well though it appears that if the NBA is his goal, it would be a mistake. If he is tired of playing hoops for free then by all means turn pro and start your clock.

Dan Wolken had a great line last night on Twitter. 'Stokes needs to enter the NFL Draft too.'

Some great notes here from Patrick Brown in Chattanooga leading up to tomorrow's game. Link

Tee Mail:
'Tony,

Just a thought, Bobby Denton was as close to a Harry Caray as Tennessee football will have. I think it would be a good idea if we let the "Vol legend" announce "Its football time in Tennessee." I think it's pathetic now that they honor the Vol legend way before kickoff in an empty stadium. Give the legend a proper intro and put it on the jumbrotron and let them announce "Its football time in Tennessee" immediately before kickoff. Let the new PA guy do his thing and let this be a proper tribute to the Vol legend and Bobby Denton. Thanks for letting me express my idea.

Jeff'

THAT is a wonderful idea sir! Great thought Jeff.

Now it’s time for the Hatfield Five, with Keith Hatfield presented by Springs Dock Resort.

'With college hoops done, I'll switch gears. Hope everyone enjoys.

1. The passing of the Ultimate Warrior is very sad. The ignorant witch Nancy Grace slandering Owen Hart is even worse.

2. I hope the reports that Jarnell Stokes is leaving school are inaccurate. There's no way he'll get drafted into guaranteed money.

3. The Heat and Pacers play the rare meaningful regular season NBA game tonight. The Pacers have to have home court to beat Miami.

4. The Smokies will have as interesting a team as they have put on the field in awhile. They have big time prospects all over the lot.

5. I encourage everyone who has time to come out today and meet Tony Robinson. He gave all of us so many magic moments that he deserves a big time reception.

Keith'

Can you imagine how much $$$ UT could raise if they auctioned off the chance to be a head coach of the Vols for the Orange & White Game? That's exactly what Arkansas State is doing. Link

Wow! You talk about some serious # twisting! Tennessee has the SECOND BEST HOOPS PROGRAM OF ALL TIME! Link

Any how you slice it, this Jameis Winston story is just terrible. And hopefully the media in Florida will keep this thing alive for these loose ends to be tied up. Read this thought provoking article from the Tampa Bay Times. Link

Adrian Peterson believes that college athletes should be paid. Link

Though they don't pay taxes, tax money does help indirectly fund big time college sports. Link

Now, this is a great Kiss Cam! Link

Final thought: This could've been Tennessee football if Derek Dooley would've stayed on campus. Link

Enjoy the wonderful weekend!

Final Four
Posted: Sun, Apr 7th, 12:12 PM
Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. More than every 2023 NBA Finals game and more than every 2023 World Series game. ESPN has had the rights to NBA games since 2002. But the Final Four game between Iowa and UConn was the networks most-watched basketball game, men’s or women’s, pro or collegiate EVER.... [more]

Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]
Connecticut Game Preview

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
