MY MEDIA RANT:
The way the media has painted the Tennessee fan base with a broad brush makes me physically ill. We’ve got writers sitting on their ample backside hundreds of miles away who watched a few down-the-stretch basketball games ignoring the largest portion of the Cuonzo Martin era, inflating the human interest aspect and portraying the Big Orange Nation as out-of-control, unreasonable racists.
The truth of the matter is this is one of the most loyal, overcharged, underserved fan bases in America who continue to show up in droves to watch lousy teams because we love UT sports. We haven’t been able to play dead in most everything since the turn of the new millennium and during that dreadful stretch the
ONLY thing that consistently rewarded that loyalty was Bruce Pearl’s teams play. So yes we were probably somewhat unfair to Cuonzo but it had NOTHING to do with Cuonzo the man and everything to do with the fact that his product paled in comparison in every aspect and shows little signs of being healthy going forward.
This is a great fan base and the National media members need to do their research instead of practicing lazy, irresponsible journalism. And to the local folks taking up the same inaccurate mantra BUY A TICKET FOR A CHANGE then tell me how unreasonable Vol fans are.
Hope to talk to you on today’s Tony Basilio Show.
