Posted: Friday, November 3rd, 2017, 10:47 AM • Permalink
You're cordially invited to our FISH Hospitality Pantry Tailgate Saturday at Tailgate Tennessee. We will be located at W-20 & 21 in Circle Park. Please come see us!!! I want to meet you. I will be there from 2:30 until kickoff. Let's have a great time and celebrate a great cause.

Special thanks to Lauren Wilson and Bethany Christian Services for having Fountain City Ramblers out to their terrific Bar B Que & Bluegrass fundraiser. We had an awesome time last night helping to raise money for a life giving cause. God bless those folks!!!

Turn Out For What???? Neyland Stadium game day organizers have given word to vendors for Southern Miss to expect around 50,000 people at that game.

Why Is He Still Here??? Isn't the real question. I would call Butch Jones a turd in the punch bowl but why offend turd filled punch bowls. He's the skunk at the garden party!!! He's that pest that comes into your life and can't take a hint. He's like that stuff you get between your toes that won't go away. He's that little beady eyed Yankee in Tellico Village that knows everything about everything. He's a tick on a dog's rear end. He's a cold that you just can't shake. He's a reoccurring sore throat. He's a telemarketer that keeps calling while you're trying to take a nap. He's officer beef calling 'individuals' about phake (sic) tax evasion issues. He's a serial caller that just discovered talk radio and wants to call EVERY show with his 'wisdom'. He's really getting old quicker than I am. He's the guy in front of you at your favorite convenience store picking out 15 different scratch off lottery calls. He's Jemele Hill on Twitter and TV.

Orange Throat
'Bachillville:

Random musings as we follow the bewilderment that is University of Tennessee athletics into the weekend:

IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED, AD John Currie doesn't want to fire Butch Jones. Currie's plan was to have everyone focused on his Neyland Stadium south end zone plan right now. To be sure, it is a huge renovation that is needed. He has done a nice job getting his fundraising campaign ready for a good start, but Butch's disintegrating program is all anyone is talking about this homecoming weekend.

CURRIE WOULD HAVE LOVED to have gotten into next season with Jones than spend the money for the buyout of Jones and staff and bring in a whole new group. Had the Vols gotten Jarrett Guarantano ready earlier, they might have beaten South Carolina and Kentucky and be sitting at 5-3 and looking at a probable 8-4 record. Instead, the Vols are 3-5 and a new controversy erupts seemingly every day. The offensive line, a sore spot throughout the Jones Era, is in tatters and UT is only a touchdown favorite tomorrow night against Southern Miss of Conference USA. The risk-averse Currie would rather be dealing with a coach Dave Hart hired than go on the clock with a coach of his own choosing.

KING JAMES and the House of Haslam are distracted and are letting Currie take all the bullets from the frustrated Big Orange Nation. Florida's back-alley hit on Jim McElwain doesn't help the optics for Currie but the HoH doesn't care about that. Big Jim Haslam, about to turn 87, doesn't like having fingerprints on executions, but always insists on approving the coronation of a successor. Son Jimmy Haslam is busy etching his name in history as one of the worst NFL owners in history and a trial of Pilot Oil senior managers is about to commence and it won't reflect well on Jimmy and the culture he authored at his dad's company.

AS GOOD AS IT MIGHT BE for the fortunes of the University of Tennessee, there is no divorce on the horizon from the stranglehold the Haslams have on power at our school. Speculation is the HoH is going to step up with a huuuuge gift to jumpstart Currie's Neyland Project, and they will certainly be prominently involved in the hiring of a new football coach, unless the Vols rally and win out and Currie and the Haslams gulp hard and go with Jones another year and expose Currie to withering criticism.

WHICH BRINGS US TO TOMORROW NIGHT'S game at our beloved Neyland Stadium with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. We do believe that the next Tennessee loss will be the end of the Butch Jones Era at Tennessee. Currie will thus be in the position of hiring the first head football coach of his career and the stakes are daunting to him. Georgia has leapt forward with Kirby Smart. Florida may take the gun off their foot and make a great hire. South Carolina looks to have made a wise hire in a rehabilitated Will Muschamp.

PREPARE TO BE DISAPPOINTED, fellow Vol fans, unless you make your voice heard.

FOR AMUSEMENT ONLY (17-27 Season ATS, 2-3 Last Week): It is entirely appropriate to call your humble prognosticator the Larry Scott of Handicappers this season. But like our UT offensive coordinator, nobody has fired us yet so we're going to keep showing up.

Ole Miss (63.5) at KENTUCKY -3.5: The Rebel/Landshark offense is still scoring with juco QB Jordan Ta'amu but Ole Miss might be about to run out of juice. Kentucky has to draw confidence from the fourth quarter drive to beat our Vols. We'll take the Wildcats and lay the points.

South Carolina (45.5) at GEORGIA -24: We like the grit of Will Muschamp's Gamecock squad. Not enough to predict an upset but enough to beat this spread. The Bulldogs are due a bit of a letdown after dominating rival Florida in Jax. Carolina and the points.

Florida (61.5) at MISSOURI -3.5: Interim HC Randy Shannon takes the Florida Gators to Columbia as an underdog. If UF strikes out with Scott Frost and others, Shannon could get into the mix if his Gators finish strong. We'll take the road dog and the Under.

LSU (48.5) at Alabama -21.5: The only teams to beat Alabama the last few years have been ones with a mobile QB and a great passing game. LSU has neither but the Tiger defense is improving and we'll take the Under as a result.

Click to Citizens National Bank on the web!
Southern Miss (48.5) at TENNESSEE -6.5: The Vols are down to the nub with offensive line depth but we like what we saw out of Ty Chandler at Kentucky. With John Kelly back and with Jarrett Guarantano gaining experience, we like our chances of scoring some points tomorrow night. It's also November when Bob Shoop defenses fade, so we'll take the Over. We'll also take the Large Orange and lay the points. We're looking for a score in the neighborhood of Tennessee 34, So Miss 24.

Throaty....Your report follows my theory that if we continue on here to bring the truth, it will seep into the mainstream in Big Orange Country little by little. Your coining the HoH is all time great. People are paying attention now as closely to the House Of Haslam as ever before as it relates to matters pertaining to Tennessee. As Elton John said 'shine your light, shine your light.' Let's get some Philadelphia Freedom up in here!

One thing I wonder about is the rest of UT's big money boosters and how this thing is going to shake if the HoH appears weakened by that trial plus the struggles of the Browns. This will be interesting to watch in the next 6 weeks.

First game observations Hoops Vols:
'Hard to tell much because C-N played exclusively compact zone D. Jordan Bowden looks like he could take a great step. Nice to see Fulkerson back! Daniel III looks like could help. Walker has a nice presence and might help. Pons looked lost. Maybe it was a first game deal. Alexander looks bigger and ready for the rigors of the season. Vols looked good defensively but opponent was so much smaller. Rick Barnes was really getting after his guys last night. (special assist in these notes...Anthony Basilio)'

'Not to be too defensive about your rankings of the potential SEC openings, because it might be compared to being ranked fifth in the Miss America beauty contest, it is still a list of real attractive options. I will just offer an additional thought, just as you stated for Arkansas that it is not 1975, you might consider it is no longer 1998 for Tennessee. While UT is very blessed with resources, fan base, etc, there has been a severe decline in results, pretty much across the entire Sports landscape. Even Women's basketball has declined, understandably with the sad circumstance around Coach S, but still a piece of the overall decline. The beacon on the hill burns considerably less bright than the past and likely less bright than the staunch supporters care to admit.

Keith...Thanks for reading but with all due respect Arkansas is a once-was program while Tennessee is one of perhaps 20 schools that are eligible to win the National Title year in and year out. Yes, I realize that's not happening right now but it will once again one day and when it does, Tennessee will be a National contender. Meanwhile, Arkansas might win the SEC West if everything breaks right in the next 10 years. Those are stone cold facts I'm sharing with you. I'll do an advanced breakdown next week of the programs in a league of their own. Unfortunately Arkansas doesn't make that list.

If you're in the Empty Neyland camp, perhaps you'd like to see a great flick. If this is you, Jack Tate our Movie King, presented by Smoothie King has something for you to consider.

Jack Tate - The Movie King
'‘THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE’ IS AN EYE-OPENING LOOK AT POST-MILITARY LIFE FOR MANY VETS

Thousands of our brave Veterans come home after their military service to face PTSD, frustration at Veterans’ hospitals, and trouble re-adjusting to family life in general.

‘Thank You For Your Service’ is a great 4 ½ star realistic look into the issues so many of our Veterans are experiencing.

Miles Teller delivers yet another sensational performance, portraying Sgt. Adam Schumann, a Veteran returning home after duty in Iraq. ‘Thank You For Your Service’ is based on true events. Sgt. Schumann and several of his friends and brothers-in-arms are all having post-war issues, ranging from PTSD to depression to dealing with emotional and physical damage from their experiences in Iraq.

The movie is not about happy times. It very honestly gives the viewer a clear glimpse into what many of our men and women who have served our nation gallantly experience when they return to the United States and their homes and families. The supporting cast around Miles Teller is incredible.

The entire movie is emotional, especially the ending which gives you a look at the real Veterans whose lives the film was based on. I had tears in my eyes as I exited the theater at Regal Pinnacle. As I was leaving, a gentleman in his late 60’s or early 70’s started a conversation with me. I said that this movie was reality and how important it is for our Veterans to receive the medical support and treatment that they need and deserve.

It was at that point the gentleman broke down and began crying. I sat down with him on one of the benches outside the theater and we talked for at least 30 minutes. He was a Vietnam Veteran. We exchanged first names and he said to just call him Mac. He then proceeded to tell me about his experiences in Vietnam, what happened to many of his friends and fellow soldiers, and his experiences since returning home following his service.

Mac said that what I had just seen on the screen was true and realistic, both for military personnel returning from Vietnam back in the 1960’s and 1970’s as well as those Vets coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan today. I probably learned more history about the Vietnam era and more about the lives of our Veterans than I could from any book or TV documentary.

Mac finally said that he had better be getting home and he thanked me for listening and talking with him. I simply shook his hand and said “Thank You Sir For Your Service.”

I highly recommend that you see this movie.

Final Thought: The worst year in NFL's modern era continues. DeShaun Watson's injury in Houston is an absolute cup check special the NFL and the city of Houston.

FAQ's Asked Of Tony Per Our Relaunch Announcement:

Q: Tony, you didn't say anything about your daily show yesterday. Will you continue to do this?

A: Absolutely. I'm looking forward to year #24 with you.

Q: Tony, you used the word 'subscribe'. What Am I subscribing too?

A: Great question. 'Subscribe' is a misnomer. What you actually are doing if you choose to help us monthly (and we need this for budgeting reasons) is actually acting as a patron. The goal is to keep the content (ALL CONTENT, from postgame offerings to various podcasts) free for all.

Q: So, if I'm not subscribing and I'm already reading this, why give?

A: Because you value the content and our contribution to the market and you want to help us keep this stuff free for everybody.

Q: Are you going to beat us up for money all the time here?

A: Absolutely not. I will bring this up a few times heading into the football season as we attempt to meet our financial goals and create new programming. I'll also mention it in the post-game format as well as the regional programming. I will not however wear you out with this. Either you feel the need to help us or you don't. This is why I'm taking today to field some question I received after day one.

Q: What happens if this doesn't generate the revenue you're seeking?

A: We will scale back our online offerings accordingly. The blog itself could even disappear. I really don't want this to happen but will be forced to spend my time in the most profitable way necessary. That's why we're having the conversation. All my cards are on the table here.

Q: Where can I find these new podcasts, like that X-Cast?

A: Click on "Podcast" wherever you see it on the site, and it will take you to our Podcast page.
