Reminder for you...

Garza Law Tennessee Basketball Overtime Call In Show:

As soon as UT/Florida goes final, we'll be on live taking your calls. I've decided that Tennessee is going to win this game tonight and they're going to win it rather handily. You'll be reading the reasons why below. I feel great about this game not so much from the Tennessee standpoint but Florida is just not very good. They're in Kentucky territory in terms of a match up for the Vols.

The Pleasure Was All Mine: I had the absolute pleasure of being on a podcast hosted by two 14 year old young men. We recorded this on Monday. Carson and Elijah Crouch host the Give Him 6 Podcast. These are two sports fanatics. We had a great talk before the recording session began. These two young guys inspired me!!!

More on this later. In the meantime, click on the link and I'm sure this will make you smile and proud to be in a fan base with great young fans such as these. Link

I walked away from our conversation with this thought.....Quoting Big Will....What about the kids? Or more to the point, how would you feel if you were one of these young guys and you were a Tennessee sports fan? Let's say they became fans at the age of 10 (which is a fair bet). If this is the case, they've seen so little from Tennessee to cheer for in either football or basketball.

In Carson & Elijah's time of fandom, in football, Tennessee has:

Lost 3 times to Vanderbilt.

Lost to Kentucky (twice in 7 years).

Suffered an 0-8 regular season.

Been shepherded by Butch Jones.

Won once against Florida.

Never beaten Alabama.

Finished near the bottom of the SEC East Standings.

Produced more shame than fame.

Given them a coaching search they'll never live down.

In Carson & Elijah's time of fandom in basketball, Tennessee has:

Made one NCAA Tournament appearance.

Missed ANY post-season 3 times.

Had 3 basketball coaches.

Been a virtual eye-sore.

Think about it...Where are the fans and ticket buyers of the future going to come from? How do you reach these young people when the highs have been so few?

What does it say about the character of these young men that they choose to love the Big Orange? And loving the Big Orange these days is almost a thankless deal. I wouldn't blame any young person for gravitating to another program more gratifying.

Both of these young guys told me about the role YouTube has played in their fandom. Both of these young guys have video to remind them of Tennessee's glory days and glory games.

Click to Performance Medicine!
Highlights of Elijah and Carson's days as fans include:

Home Football win over Florida in 2016!!!

Hail Mary win over Georgia 2016!!!

Bowl wins over Iowa, Nebraska & Northwestern!!!

Three straight wins over Kentucky in basketball!!!

The 2017-18 basketball season....

That's pretty much it unless you want to include winning The Battle at Bristol.

It's really sad if you stop and think about it.

In fact, even the Lady Vols have basically ceased to exist as a true national power during these young guysʻ era of fandom.

It's almost absurd how little our young fans have had to cheer or get excited about.

Tennessee is almost getting to the point where they're going to have to produce something to energize young fans or they're going to lose a generation of young people.

And again, I wouldn't blame any young person for turning to EPL soccer or Predators hockey for a sports fix at this point.

I just wanted to shine the light on these refreshing young people whom I really feel sorry for as young fans. They deserve more feel good moments from their Tennessee fandom.

Is this the worst stretch when you factor in the football/hoops (men's & women's) that any of us can remember? I'm venturing to say the answer to that is a whole hearted yes. Here's an idea....Share with young people that you know in Vol Nation that great times are going to roll around here really soon. Encourage them not to give up the fight. I'm being serious here.

Tony,

It's back to the grind for The IX. Time for the countdown to March to begin.

1. Tennessee could really use a win tonight to keep from losing the momentum they've built over the course of the season. The last 4 games have not been pretty.

2. Florida is probably even more desperate entering the arena tonight. The Gators are in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament.

Click to 21st Mortgage!
3. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't comment yet again on the patent absurdity of two Eastern time zone schools tipping off at 9 PM on a weeknight. Makes absolutely zero sense.

4. Georgia will try to keep their faint NCAA Tournament hopes alive in South Carolina tonight. The Bulldogs probably need to win out in the regular season to have a shot at the field.

5. Alabama goes for the season sweep of Auburn on The Plains tonight. A win would provide a huge resume boost for the Tide.

6. It'll be interesting to see what Kentucky does moving forward. The Cats played their best game of the season in Fayetteville.

7. The Big 12 appears to have played most of a wild regular season to land in the usual spot. Kansas appears to have control of the league yet again.

Click to Clancy's Tavern & Whiskey House!
8. Middle Tennessee is a great college basketball success story. Kermit Davis has done a phenomenal job of sustaining success in Murfreesboro.

9. I admit to more than a little bias regarding the situation, but Ole Miss is far from certain to end up with a better basketball coach than Andy Kennedy. That job is incredibly challenging.

Clancy's Tavern and Whiskey House is Knoxville's authentic Irish Pub. Stop in and confirm that for yourself.

Tonight's Game Is Serious..... for Florida: They have an opportunity to get a YUUUUGE win on the road in tonight's 9pm start. Gator beat writer Kevin Brockway painted a picture yesterday on the air of an underachieving Gator team that both plays up and down to the athletes in front of them. Florida has lost 9 games OUTRIGHT as a favorite. They come in to tonight as one of Jerry Palmʻs last four team in the NCAA Tournament. Brockway told me that there's potential for Tennessee to bludgeon Florida inside if the Vols will stay disciplined on offense. Plus Chris Chiozza has really struggled while the Gators have been prone to lose interest on the defensive end. I'll say it right now before I hand it off to Mark Griffin for his three pointers....If Tennessee doesn't beat this team tonight, I'm going to hit the orange alert panic button. There's no reason Tennessee shouldn't win this game handily. And remember, I'm the guy that told you one week ago that South Carolina would be a tough game and that I didn't like Tennessee at Georgia. Tennessee should absolutely get well tonight at the expense of a lifeless Florida squad.

World Domination Tour Continues: Nick Saban covets it all!!! You're not allowed to enjoy anything. We're all in his playpen and EVERY damn toy is behind him. All we can do is twiddle our thumbs. Bama OWNS it ALL. As if Saban needed Miami's D Line player development coaching genius. Link

Final Thought: So, Louisville has been stripped of a title that was already played, celebrated...Does this mean that the game didn't happen now? Does the NCAA go on line and destroy all video evidence of it on YouTube and other venues? Will the NCAA confiscate all National Championship rings, shirts, jackets, etc? Does Rick Pitino's gnarly back tattoo get erased? Do all Twitter posts and Facebook threads get locked and lost to history? Does the NCAA confiscate all memorabilia held by Louisville fans? Is Michigan the new 2013 NCAA Champion? Let me help you out....NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO and NO!!! So, NCAA...shut the hell up, stop it and go away. I can't wait until the FBI embarrasses college basketball the way it deserves to be embarrassed the administrative level.

See you today on the radio and tonight after the game on our app/stream/facebook live & Periscope…

FAQ's Asked Of Tony Per Our Relaunch Announcement:

Q: Tony, you didn't say anything about your daily show yesterday. Will you continue to do this?

A: Absolutely. I'm looking forward to year #24 with you.

Q: Tony, you used the word 'subscribe'. What Am I subscribing too?

A: Great question. 'Subscribe' is a misnomer. What you actually are doing if you choose to help us monthly (and we need this for budgeting reasons) is actually acting as a patron. The goal is to keep the content (ALL CONTENT, from postgame offerings to various podcasts) free for all.

Q: So, if I'm not subscribing and I'm already reading this, why give?

A: Because you value the content and our contribution to the market and you want to help us keep this stuff free for everybody.

Q: Are you going to beat us up for money all the time here?

A: Absolutely not. I will bring this up a few times heading into the football season as we attempt to meet our financial goals and create new programming. I'll also mention it in the post-game format as well as the regional programming. I will not however wear you out with this. Either you feel the need to help us or you don't. This is why I'm taking today to field some question I received after day one.

Q: What happens if this doesn't generate the revenue you're seeking?

A: We will scale back our online offerings accordingly. The blog itself could even disappear. I really don't want this to happen but will be forced to spend my time in the most profitable way necessary. That's why we're having the conversation. All my cards are on the table here.

Q: Where can I find these new podcasts, like that X-Cast?

A: Click on "Podcast" wherever you see it on the site, and it will take you to our Podcast page.

We can now officially congratulate Caitlin Clark on breaking the record for the most points scored in women’s basketball!

Caitlin Clark is the biggest superstar in college basketball (men’s or women’s). That’s not just me being a fan, Caitlin Clark is HER! Caitlin scored 49 points on February 15th to pass Kelsey Plum’s NCAA record for the most career points in women’s college basketball..... [more]
It's a Love Story
Posted: Wed, Feb 14th, 11:23 AM
Jared (the redneck from Roanoke, VA) thought the Taylor Swift coverage would end with the Super Bowl, but this love story isn’t going anywhere. In a game that was four hours and 18 minutes (that’s a total of 15,480 seconds). Swift only appeared for around 55 seconds! 55 SECONDS from the moment the game kicked off to the overtime touchdown.

Missouri Game Preview

by Josh
The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]
Connecticut Game Preview

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
