Sometimes things look too easy. Nothing is ever easy in the SEC in football unless you're Alabama. For everybody else in this league, getting wins is a week to week proposition. Anthony Dasher joined me earlier in the week regarding the Dawgs and where they are coming into Saturday. He painted a pretty bleak picture of things from a Georgia perspective coming into Saturday. I told you the whole off-season that Tennessee was getting to Atlanta this year. I still that happens regardless of what happens Saturday. Put it this way, Georgia might just get Tennessee on Saturday, but the Vols will still gain a berth in the SEC Title Game.
Anthony Dasher of UGAsports.com on Georgia
Record wise where I thought.
The effort hasn't been there vs. Nichols St and Ole miss.
Blocking on inside of O-line not there.
All rushing yds on outside.
Kablanow so small on O-line he gets pushed around.
Ga was fortunate to beat Mizzou.
WR's had 7 vs. Mizzou & 7 to 10 vs. Ole Miss
Nick Chubb. Doubt he'll play.
Had walking boot on Monday.
Sony Michelle and 2 true freshmen.
Chubb might be a tick slower than last yr. Eye test. Not getting into clear. Lost a half a step w that injury.
O Line is healthy just not very.
Jacob Eason. Still a freshmen. Even Matt Stafford struggled. Pocket management better. Reads getting better.
Dawgs D is young. 1 sr starter.
Mostly freshmen and sophomores
Olb is weak spot. 1/2 sack combined there.
Safety is strength of team.
CB is an issue JuJuan Briscoe has been burned and picked on.
Rest of games I think they'll be able to be competitive but not in this one. Too many Jimmy's & Joes.
It's about talent level and depth.
Too many things going against the Dawgs.
All quotes from Anthony Dasher of UGASports.com a member of the Rivals Network as heard on Tony Basilio Show 9/27/16.
I really want to believe Anthony Dasher and my other Georgia fans that insist that they just don't have much this year but this is Tennessee/Georgia. These games are always weird while usually being quite close. Records don't seem to matter when these two teams play. If ever there was a week where Georgia would rise to the occasion it would be this one. I really wish I could believe Tennessee is going to blow that team out. As of right now, I'm just not there.
I find this Ga Blog amusing.

As promised for right around a week, CC Hoops returns with another award winning UT Hoops recruiting report. If the names on this list leave you feeling a little underwhelmed, you're not alone.
CC Hoops
'After last week, it looks like Tennessee has one player
(Isaiah Stokes) remaining from the Vols original Top board of four players. There is some word out there that Stokes may wait until the Spring signing period, so with recruiting info so hard to come by these days here are who Barnes and staff seem to be targeting.
If Stokes does something in November, it's down to Tennessee and Iowa State. Sources inside UT's hoops program said that the staff feels good about UT's chances to land him. Then again, they felt pretty good about the other prospects that fled them for elsewhere in recent days.
Rick Barnes was in Ohio earlier this week watching new target 6-10, 235, Sterling Manley workout. Also joining him was Roy Williams and John Thompson III. Ohio state has also been tracking the seemingly hot as of late big man. Tennessee offered earlier in the week and UNC offered after watching his workout. He and Stokes seem to be the top targets as of now.
Tennessee has an official visit set up for Oct. 14 (Bama game) with PF/SF Chase Johnson. Johnson's top 3 seem to be WV, Florida and Tennessee. The Vols were one of the first big schools' to get involved with him. Will WVU and or Florida ultimately have room for him. UT might just benefit from the #'s game in this one. That is if they're still a player for him in a few weeks.
Another possibility is PF 6-10, 205 pound Zach Kent. The staff had monitored him in the spring but cooled on him. They are going back to him hot and heavy after recent developments. There is not really much info on him from the services but my contacts in the industry seem to think Kent is a project.
Last but certainly not least is 6-4, 205 pound shooting guard Anthony Mack. The staff watched him work out last week and are monitoring him. Not really sure how interested they are in him unless they feel like they may lose a player or two to transfer. Basketball being a fluid deal these days Mack is a name you may want to file away and keep for later.
Check Back as news breaks out...I'll break in....
Fair, Balanced & Waiting,
CC Hoops'
CC: Great report! Sounds promising. I sure hope we can land a couple of decent recruits and salvage some momentum in the early going. I'm not counting on this staff though. It seems like we're in a similar place from that standpoint.
Tee Mail:
'Tony, regarding your comments about the AD search I have been going to games for 66 years and no organization can screw up a hire more than the UTAD. I personally thought Hart did a great job and was run out by malcontents and parasites like Debbie Jennings. However now that he is a lame duck I am all in on David Blackburn who has done a phenomenal job down here at UTC. He is the best candidate for the job and the fact he is a UT grad is icing on the cake.
Watching the tribute to the 56 team Saturday there was mention of Bowden Wyatt. Remember this is the arrogant jerk who out of 100 teams playing college football was the only coach still running the single wing. After losing the Top 2 QBs in the country who were instate players in 61 and 62 (Sloan and Spurrier) he was famously quoted as saying, "I'm not changing my system for anybody." In the summer of 63 he was gone.
So who did we hire as AD? None other than Bob Woodruff, whose main claim to fame was during his tenure as AD at Florida they had never won a SEC Championship in either football or basketball so he was fired.
Woodruff did make one good hire with Dickey but after Dickey left when he could hire virtually any coach in the country he hires of all people a 28 year old position coach with no experience even as a co-coordinator. Then 8 years later when Mears had to retire for medical reasons and we were a Top 15 program he hires a coach from Wyoming who had just gone 11-17 and had a rap as a mediocre recruiter. At the same time passing over a promising young coach at West Point who had just gone 17-11. The next year he went to Duke and the rest is history.
Fast forward a few years to 2003 when we are looking for an AD to replace Dickey. We were a Top 15 Athletic Dept who could have attracted many proven candidates. But for some inexplicable reason we hire a bean counter from Clemson who never played a sport in his life and he destroys the football, basketball and baseball programs and practically bankrupts the UTAD.
So pardon me if I don’t have a lot of confidence in the University making the correct choice for our new AD.
Doug in Ooltewah'
Doug: Great hearing from you. As I said yesterday, I'm holding onto my hat on this one. I think we've had our finger on the pulse of what's going on at UT on that campus better than anyone around and I'm telling you that I'm really afraid that the tide is moving away from David Blackburn because he's seen as an inside guy. This place is remarkable the way it always diminishes its own. I'm disgusted by it to be honest with you.
'Tony:
As you well know, getting prospects to commit to any school is all about marketing. How many times have we brought in top-flight football recruits to TBA for high-value basketball games to capitalize on "Vol Mania"? Butch Jones didn't miss an opportunity Saturday in showcasing Tennessee. That Rick Barnes did not have one prospect in attendance tells me that he is just treading water and not really interested in getting involved in all things Tennessee. This borders on Dereliction of Duty and is cause for dismissal. I say hire David Blackburn and tell him to bring Will Wade or Matt McCall with him. We don't need a PT Barnum but we do need someone to promote our brand. Thank you for all you do for those of us not able to live in Knoxville and breathe that rarified air.
Phil '72 UTK'
The Aforementioned CC Hoops shared with me that Barnes did actually have four unofficial visitors on campus this weekend for the Florida game. Two of the visitors are so far off the radar that they aren't in the data bases of ANY of the major services. Rick Barnes is off to a slow start indeed. I hope it works out for him but I'm not counting on him being here very long. I just don't see a lot of there there. And recruiting is how you judge these things. He's asleep.

Keep the heat on Rick Barnes' lack of recruiting so that someone might finally stand up and say “Why are you backchannel campaigning for your AD pick while you haven’t signed a single 4 star or better recruit?” I know, it is to protect the security of your retirement home coaching position at Tennessee, but we see you Rick…you have been here less than a minute and you think you should have influence on this decision…and shame on our administration if they allow it!!
Let me know what if anything I can do to derail this because I want to take back our athletic department and I want Barnes out…never wanted him to begin with and the nice guy ish is fine if we weren’t trying to win…see Mike Hamilton for how well that worked out!!
Frankie From Parts Unknown'
Two things...If you want to get involved, send e-mails, make calls to the talk shows. Hit the boards. Make your voice heard. Tell the $$$ people you know that we can't have a Bammer.
Secondly on Barnes....If you're not cheating in college hoops, what's the point. What kills me is that Tennessee is in this position in the first place because Hart/Gilbert made not one but two questionable hires in hoops. They took the Tyndall fiasco and compounded by getting this sleepy NASCAR lover. It's really sad.
BTW, Frankie...Your T Mail is the second today to allude to Mike Hamilton. That's always a great sign for what's going on in the AD search.
'Tony B!!!
Funny story about the 5th quarter. I dozed off around 8:30 Saturday night. When I woke up, the show was still on the air. I thought you were replaying the show. No you were still on the air. No one does it like you.
If you put the tip jar up I will contribute. Your blog the daily show makes my day at work easier to tolerate.
Fredx'
Fred...You know I LOVE interacting with you on Twitter. Great to hear from you here. I think I'm going to experiment with a tip jar for this weekend's Smartway/Garza Law Firm 5th Quarter Fan Reaction. As I said a couple of days ago here, we're taking a beating in the expense department this year and I haven't really had ample time to recoup things with ad revenue. That listeners like yourself would initiate this is unheard of in my industry. Then again, what we have here is very unique. I really am humbled by this outpouring of support from this audience. It means the world to me.
Mike Huguenin of Gridironnow.com returns today and we have a great deal to discuss coming into this most interesting weekend.
