What did you miss by not going on our Keeneland Trip over the weekend?
Vol Colonel leads things off today.
Vol Colonel
This might be the shortest offering your old Vol Colonel has ever has posted on to this blog. There's just not a lot happening right now in Big Orange Country. I guess it's worth mentioning that the Baseball Vols finally won a series against a conference foe. They took two of three from Vandy over the weekend. It's always a good thing when you beat a conference rival, especially one that's in state and ranked #4 in the land, but it's bittersweet at best. Winning your first conference series in late April isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of your season or your program. The race is on with the other cellar dwellers in the conference to make it to Hoover. I can't say I really like our chances, but they're probably about as good as the rest of the dreck floating with us at the bottom. I haven't heard anything solid about Dave Serrano's future as Vols skipper, but I'd say the chances of him returning is pretty slim. He's a good guy as we all know, but when you lose more games than Todd Raleigh, it's really hard to make a case to keep you on board.
It was refreshing to see all of our sports do exceptionally well with their APR scores that recently came in for last year. The football teams APR has risen over 30 points since Coach Jones took over the program. Now some of you might think this isn't important, but when you consider that Derek Dooley's teams were on the brink of a postseason ban because of poor academic performance, it certainly is a big deal. Coach Jones does so many things the right way. It really was the perfect storm for us when Charlie Strong left Diamond Dave at the alter and we were able to walk Coach Jones off of that plane to Boulder, Colorado. This is going to be the year when it pays off in spades. Football season just can't get here soon enough for me.
Folks, I could go on with a few odds and ends to fill up some space, but that's not how we roll around here. I want all of you to know how much I appreciate you reading my blog offerings. It's always been a real labor of love for me. I'm going to be taking a break from the blog until around the middle of June. I've got some traveling coming up with Lady Colonel in the next month and a half or so and there's just not a lot going on right now. We'll see ya in about 6 weeks or so right here on the blog. Until then, be blessed and Go Big Orange!
We Love ya!

Bob Shoop joins today at Noon. I'm looking forward to discussing where he wanted to be post-spring to where the Vols are on defense. We have lots to discuss. Get a really good look at Shoop because I don't think he's going to be around here very long. Bob Shoop will be a head coach somewhere within four years. I say this because I'm expecting Tennessee to have terrific success on defense because they have too many athletes not to succeed.
What's fair....Every 10 years Tennessee should play in a minimum of ______SEC Title games....Every 10 years Tennessee should win ______ SEC Titles.
Quick...Quick...Who's Tennessee's most recent first round draft choice?

If the Tennessee baseball team has designs on making the NCAA Tournament, it's almost mandatory that they get a sweep this weekend at Mizzou. Tennessee's RPI sits at 54. They must crack the top 50 in the RPI or its RIP. Tennessee needs 14-15 SEC wins to get consideration. The Vols have Mizzou, UF, LSU, and UGA left. From this lot they must go either 8-4 or 9-3 to get in. Last year Kentucky at 14 SEC wins and was left at home. Heck, Mizzou won 15 and was left at the house. Vols better sweep this weekend.
While you are either working or preparing to work your J-O-B today, Sam Bradford is throwing a fit because the Eagles have hurt his feelings. Look, I get it. Bradford is in a contract year and he doesn't want to risk being replaced in week 11 by a rookie QB that the Eagles are drafting. The Eagles are a laughing stock in the NFL, but Sam Bradford demanding a trade from a team that will pay him $23 million this year to be the mediocre NFL QB he's always been is no laughing matter. At some point, pro sports are going to jump the shark with all of us. Think about what kind of disrespect you would take from your employer today if they were paying you $23 million gross in the next 12 months. Can you imagine?
I was sorry to see Brady's suspension upheld. If the NFL can't find a better way to repudiate the Patriots than this, forget about it. The truth is that EVERY QB on EVERY NFL team likes the balls a certain way. Some like them with more air, some with less but everybody has their own thing. The NFL was playing double jeopardy with the Patriots. We all get it. Four games for what Brady did is silly. Good thing he isn't an NCAA hoops coach....
Tee Mail:
'Tony I think our 2016 football slogan should be "This Calling". And what I mean by that is an end to at least 1 of the Florida or Bama losing streaks, a trip to the Georgia Dome as SEC East champion and at least a New Year’s Day bowl game.
I figure we could put up a picture of a helmet of that weeks opponent and a picture of the Georgia Dome up to remind us each week of what "This Calling" is all about.
Our theme song would be "This Calling" by the band All That Remains. Some of the lyrics are below.
And I hear this calling and you don't seem so far at all. And I hear this calling.
My strengths been tested. I wear the scars that prove.
Now I believe that this calling will see me through.

Ross: Love the musical references. Great stuff. I don't mind 'This Calling,' but it sounds like something a little more spiritual than chasing an SEC Championship.
You just knew the NCAA was going to sidestep punishing Carolina basketball. Men's major college hoops is farcical. Consider how atrocious it is that Donnie Tyndall got years while NCAA hoops ran a fake college for 23 years, but the NCAA only decided to count dating back to 2006. And Sylvia Hatchel and her program are the scapegoats in this deal? Don't you love that? How predictable was this. The NCAA couldn't die quickly enough for me. What a joke. I can't wait for the NCAA to cease to exist. Screw them.

Color me glad Mike Tirico is going to NBC. Not a big fan.
I wonder if Michael Stipe ever had an armed guard at the height of REM's popularity.

Final thought: Has it really been 18 years since Tennessee has won an SEC Football Championship? Think about that.
