Click Funeral Home-Farragut

SERVICE:

Saturday January 30th; Noon

St Mary's Church-Oak Ridge

Today's blog and show are in honor of Piassan. Don Carson is/was and always will be an American original! A kid that grew up in Oak Ridge who was a stranger to no one. He always left it better than he found it. Piassan will be sorely missed.

Here's Beano's heartfelt tribute to his dearly departed friend. Read this and you will be moved. I promise. Link

I'm looking for some good news after last night's 'effort' at Bama. Here's something. One week from today we are live at Smoky Mountain Brewery Turkey Creek! I'm partnering with Fox Sports Radio 1340 and we will be live all day 6a-8p from Smoky Mountain Brewery.

I'm going to start today's show off with another special communiqué from Axion Jaxion. Ajax gets credit for his 'H' hat, plus his decision to refrain from using the 3rd person. I'm convinced that AJ has an interesting future after seeing this. Link

Fidel Gödel’s NFL sucks. His system of jurisprudence is lacking. He's missed his calling. He would make a great SEC Commissioner. Why would the NFL mess with Manning? He has one more game left. Why do this? Is this at the behest of Robert Kraft after his guys were denied? Is this a way to show the rest of the world that the NFL will even prosecute stars like dare I say Brady & Manning? I don't get it. Leave it alone. Do I think Manning would use HGH to heal more quickly from an injury? Do you? I think it's certainly possible and so do you.

Manning is a human being. He's not a faultless being. He's ultra competitive and competing at the highest level has been of the utmost for much of his adult life. It's certainly within the realm of possibility that he would take a shortcut back to health. He knows the sands are slipping through the hourglass on his HOF career. Whether Manning did this or not he should NEVER have to deal with this during the run up to the Super Bowl. Is the NFL going to clear this up in the next 10 days? Are you freaking kidding me? What a joke that league is. Fidel Goodel has no clothes. He's a little boy playing commissioner.

Full disclosure here....If I wasn't doing the Smartway/Garza Law Firm Tennessee Basketball Overtime last night I would've turned in at halftime. That was some brutal hoops. How Tennessee ever let that Bama team anywhere near being in that game at halftime was embarrassing. But the Vols not only did that but they somehow lost that game. It was amazing. It should've never been that close. Bama is atrocious. That poor team has zero material. Admiral Schofield stepped on Bama’s Crimson throat with 2 quick 3’s! And then he shot 5 more 3 balls. We shot 33 3 balls tonight. 33!!! That's flat out stupid!!!

How about 3 Vols watching several rebound attempts in that game. Tennessee shot 3 three balls in 7 secs in one sequence. ALL TIME STUPID basketball. Two blown 12 point leads. Bama ended that game on a 16-2 run. What a golden opportunity that was for a road win. The Vols had a chance to improve to 12-9 on the year with a game at very beatable TCU on Saturday! If the Vols can climb to this mark dare I say we start doing the math for March? Can you feel me?

Florida, meanwhile, in their first half in Nashville last night was 6-33 from the field in the first half with an 0-9 mark from 3.

Wake Forest was up 7 with 56 seconds left at home with Virginia last night and lost. Buzzball lives!

The calm before the Super Bowl storm is in effect this week. Enjoy the sanity while you can, sports fans.

1. Tennessee absolutely tossed away a victory in Tuscaloosa last night. Their were the architects of their own demise.

2. Duke has serious issues on the defensive end of the floor. The Blue Devils look like a merely decent squad at this point.

3. It is hard to argue that anyone in college basketball has a better homecourt than Iowa State these days. Hilton Coliseum is essentially basketball Mardi Gras.

Click to Clancy's Tavern & Whiskey House!
4. Orlando is suffering through the painful process that all young, improving teams eventually face. They are losing an inordinate number of close games because they don't yet know how to close out games.

5. St. Joe's has quietly run out to a 16-3 start. Phil Martelli appears to have gotten Hawks back on sound footing.

6. Blake Griffin is proving to be a player you cannot depend on to properly handle his business. One of your alleged stars breaking his hand in an altercation with an equipment guy is absurd.

7. Xavier looked like a Final Four team in their road win over Providence. The Musketeers are going to make Villanova work for the Big East title.

8. Virginia got the kind of miracle win at Wake Forest that often jumpstarts a winning streak. We'll see if the Cavaliers can make a run at the tip of the ACC.

9. San Diego State has quietly recovered from a slow start and run off an 8-0 start in Mountain West play. No matter how much they struggle offensively, their defense seems to always save the day in league play.

'Tony

Just wanted to leave a warning for all the Twitter haters who follow our football recruits.

Do not blast this kids on signing day if they choose someone besides TN!

#1. It makes us look like a bunch of rednecks.

#2. The other coaches we recruit against will use it against us.

#3. And most important you never know where a kid will ultimately end up. If we had slammed Kamara 3 years ago for not choosing us, would he have decided to come here after leaving Bama??? I doubt it.

Thanks
Chaz'

Chaz: Thanks for the note...I'll see your three reasons and raise you one.

#4 It's just damn uncivilized. These are 18-22 year old kids who are in the most cases just innocent pawns in a multi-million dollar game. The lies and deception go both ways. None of it is personal. Besides, these young people you blast are someone's child, brother, sister, cousin and uncle. So cut this shit out and grow up. And this goes for ALL FAN BASES, not just Tennessee's. I can promise you this, if most of the Twittiots had a chance to say to these kids what they do in that forum while in the flesh, they would shudder and run like the keyboard cowards they are.

Oh and one other thing...I wouldn't let my recruited son be on Twitter with a public account these days. No way, Charlie Brown. Besides, when a kid got to school, I wouldn't let them on Twitter to take the abuse from fan bases. It just doesn't seem worth it to me. Of course, we are living in age where we've lost the ability to say no to athletes at all levels. I just think exposing student athletes to potential online abuse is needless.

Great point again Chaz..I'm glad you e-mailed me and please keep in touch. As news breaks out, you break in!

How about 'X' and Vol Colonel? As a friend of mine in the media biz said yesterday, I'd stack that Tuesday content up against ANY PAY SITE IN THE FREE WORLD! That was some OUTSTANDING stuff from those guys.

How does Kevin Sumlin do it? How does he recruit to this mess? And I do mean mess. Is this further proof that the Geophysical Year Of The Living Vol is upon us? I mean they have rotated on UT's schedule seemingly right on time. Quoting the Macho Man Randy Savage, can you dig it? Link

Tee Mail II:

Eric S is feeling the Geophysical Year Of The Living Vol in his own special way.

'A lot of vague words by RTI on this one all to say, “Get a little better.”

Link

But how specifically to do this?

1) WRs:

a. Make the catches you’re supposed to make. Does anyone want to go back and count dropped passes from 2015? Me neither. No name, no blame, just man up in this area and make the catches. Be ready to get the ball every time.

b. Be full-tilt every play. Even when the ball isn’t coming your way. If you do this, then you can draw that defender that one extra step that makes the difference for your buddy in the slot, the WR on the other side of the field, or the RB coming downhill.

c. Stay healthy.

2) QB:

a. Accuracy. No more Ebby Calvin “Nuke” LaLoosh.

b. Rhythm with WRs. Remember when Peyton got in trouble for posting “Mandatory” workout signs for him and the WRs? Anybody remember how good they were as a result? You don’t have to be Peyton Manning, but be that guy and work out with the WRs in similar fashion and see how things improve

3) Running game:

a. OL will be another year experienced and should work on getting stronger and meaner.

b. Lead Blocker for Hurd/AK. UT gained a ton of yards on the ground in 2015 because we ran the fool out of the ball. So imagine how much better that ground game could be with blocking that gets them to the second level before first contact. Imagine what this will open up for the passing game.

c. Hurd and AK on the field together. In 2004, Auburn finally tried the revolutionary idea of getting all of their playmakers on the field at one time. They had Jason Campbell, Ronnie Brown, and Carnell Williams in the backfield at the same time. And they were very tough to stop. UT has that same kind of dynamic and need only the imagination to put it into practice. Imagine what this kind of punch would do for the passing game.

In every case, all of the tools are there. Tennessee needs only the imagination and willpower to put it into practice as a staff, as a team, and as individual players.

Let the Geophysical Year Of The Volunteer continue. That would be “VGY” for short. What a beautiful world this will be.

Eric S.

Eric: E-Z on the RTI guys. Vague words get it done. This is after all about keeping it interesting with hot daily content. It's a lot easier said than done sometimes. Trust me. Those folks do a wonderful job. I'm proud of them. That said, as my man Willie T (of Halls) says on the radio, if 'Dobbs can just get a 'lil' better!' Just a lil'. There's no telling where this team will be.

Congrats to Jordie Mac. 61 points in a D League game for my Delaware 87ers. I wonder if Tom from Wilmington was at this game. Jordie Mac deserves a call up. He only had 3 three balls in the game. That's called doin' work! Get it done Jordie Mac. Maybe when the Sixers decide they want to win games in say 2018 they'll give him a shot! Link

So much right about FCS playoffs, yet they continue to tinker with them and make them better. Meanwhile the big boys stay stuck in the mud. Link

The turnout for Dana Henegar's funeral last night is proof of a life well-lived. Dana touched thousands of people in her brief life, and boy did they turn out last night. Great job by her husband Mark with his wonderful eulogy. Dana will be sorely missed.

Final Four

Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
