I begin by saying thanks to you for being here. Without you this doesn't happen. I'm not getting to do something I love passionately each and every day. It's such a joy to be a small part of the scene here in Rocky Top. I really do love this place. I thought it would be apropos to show off the intelligent audience we are blessed to have. This is some NEXT LEVEL stuff on a few recurring issues here in Knoxville.

This next Tee Mail will make Beano scream hallelujah!!!!

'Tony,

I totally agree with you on the embarrassing schedule the SEC has with two games left in the season. The cupcake games are a fill-in for some of the traditional games being moved back a week. But the SEC has had a few years to fix this and they haven’t. My hope is the league office was embarrassed by those games with two teams nearly losing and one actually losing.

I believe the last three weeks of the season should be league games only except for the traditional in-state rivalries like Florida-FSU. If they want to sprinkle in a few non-conference games and some open dates the first weekend of November, I have no problem with that. But I also think a few games should be moved around to keep the division races more interesting. I don’t think they should do like the Big 12 and Big Ten did by back loading their schedules with all big games at the end. But moving the UT-Florida game to November would keep things interesting in the East. Here’s an example schedule of the last few weeks based on this year’s games:

Oct. 31
Georgia-Florida
Missouri-Kentucky
South Carolina-Tennessee
Vanderbilt-Houston
Arkansas-Ole Miss
Auburn-Texas A&M
La. Tech-Mississippi State
Alabama OPEN
LSU OPEN

Nov. 7
LSU-Alabama
North Texas-Tennessee
Georgia Southern-Georgia
Vanderbilt-Florida
Charlotte-Kentucky
Mississippi State-Missouri
Citadel-South Carolina
Auburn-Arkansas
W. Carolina-Texas A&M
Ole Miss OPEN

Nov. 14
Tennessee-Florida
Arkansas-LSU
Kentucky-Vanderbilt
Missouri-Georgia
South Carolina-Texas A&M
Alabama-Mississippi State
Ole Miss-Auburn

Nov. 21
LSU-Ole Miss
Tennessee-Missouri
Arkansas-Alabama
Texas A&M-Vanderbilt
Florida-South Carolina
Georgia-Auburn
Kentucky-Mississippi State

Nov. 28
Missouri-Arkansas
Clemson-South Carolina
Georgia-Georgia Tech
Louisville-Kentucky
Alabama-Auburn
Vanderbilt-Tennessee
Ole Miss-Mississippi State
Florida State-Florida
Texas A&M-LSU

The league office made it a point to demand schools upgrade their basketball schedules. The SEC should make it a point to practice what they preach and get these cupcake games off the end of the schedule. It’s a disservice to the fans, the TV partners, and the players who have shown no interest in these games.

Thanks,
Michael Moats'

Michael: Always great hearing from you! Jeez. I don't know. Why would the SEC want to build drama throughout the season? Your proposal is beyond next level. How does the best conference in the league get even better? By going here!! Great job man!!

'Being on vacation, I've obviously got a lot of free time to troll this week. Saw on RTI where Tyler Bray had sent out some tweets about UT playing timid. Sigh.

Why would anyone seriously care about what tweets come out from Tennessee's all-time Intentional Grounding Penalty pass leader?

Seerussly?

"You can't let up when you have a team down."

. . . unless you just don't want to "go to some crappy bowl game" and choose to lose against a Kentucky team led by a third string QB converted from a tight end.

Tyler Bray commenting on anything involving the Vols is LOL funny after the way he carried himself here. I would take a passing challenged Josh Dobbs any day over him and twice on every Sunday.

On UT hoops. Best win of the year last night over a veteran Army team. Army gave UT a great shot with the way they switched defenses and Tennessee navigated through it quite well. The sharing and quality of shots was wonderful. All in all, Tennessee really gave a great effort last night. This team is really fun to watch.

On the Lamonte Turner appeal. First of all kudos to Jimmy Hyams for breaking the story. Armani Moore, for one, is rooting this on. He gets no downtime during games. Mark Griffin said that if Turner becomes eligible Tennessee WILL make the NCAA Tournament. Keith Hatfield said last night 'who knows' on this one because there's 'no rhyme or reason for what the NCAA does on matters of eligibility.' Food for thought.

On Moestella...Mark Griffin made a great point last night on him. 'I spent the night watching him tonight specifically and he's constantly playing on his heels. We talk about the triple threat position and he's not in any position to make plays. I think he's playing himself into a spot where he's going to start seeing less time if he doesn't pick it up.'

On Hubbs....'He's got scary ability....When he first came in he blew my mind with his hops.....One thing to watch is that when he's shooting he has to let the ball go with both feet coming off the floor at the same time. He has a habit of winding up with his right foot behind him.'

On GW. Probably the favorite to win the A-10. A veteran team with some size. Not huge but they have a # of guys that have been together for several years. A non-conference win over the Cavs plus at least a top 4 finish in the A-10 probably means Tennessee plays a future NCAA team Friday night at 9pm.

Final Four

Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. More than every 2023 NBA Finals game and more than every 2023 World Series game. ESPN has had the rights to NBA games since 2002. But the Final Four game between Iowa and UConn was the networks most-watched basketball game, men’s or women’s, pro or collegiate EVER.... [more]

Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
