Sources tell Tonybasilio.com that Donnie Tyndall was a at New Mexico Junior College last night seeing a trio of guys that CC Hoops wrote about toward the end of last week. Two of the guys getting love last night are teammates while the other is perhaps the most coveted of the three. Tennessee is apparently set to put the hard press on at least two of the three guys they've been interested in from that one club alone. I expect Tennessee to sign 3 in the spring. If you're doing the math, that means the Vols will have to get creative or there's someone on the roster that doesn't figure to be there in a few months. Stay tuned.

Tennessee was seeing PG Rob Gray last night. It would alleviate a lot of problems if UT could land him for next year. This is a guy not afraid to have the ball in his hands at the end of game. A great ball handler that would really solidify things. Gray is a Tyndall type of player. Tougher than nails. You can book that.

Look at Gray's #'s coming into last night. The guy does a lot of things on a basketball team. Link

Tyndall was also showing the love to Malik Trent and Kamani Jackson. Any of these guys would help but Grey would be the first they landed in a perfect world as this team really needs a point guard.

With a little luck, Tennessee could be a 9 or 10 win football team in 2015. One thing's certain, the Vols are due if you internalize this. Link

Justin Coleman...If Tennessee is going to keep its streak alive of NFL drafts with at least one selection, you're going to have to pick up the slack. So far, so good. Link

How far can the Lady Vols go in the upcoming NCAA Tournament? Who knows? If their effort sans Harrison is any indication, NOBODY is going to fight you like they will for 40 minutes. Link

Speaking of Lady Vols...Dave Hart doesn't care what you think. He's Dave Hart and you're not. He's doing the same exact stuff he did at FSU. Never met a fight he wouldn't pick. Guy is a real treat. Link

'The winter malaise continues here in Knoxville. Not a lot getting accomplished around here in the last 10 days or so.

1. Tennessee desperately needs to defend their home court against Vanderbilt tomorrow night. A loss makes any postseason play unlikely.

2. The Commodores have the nucleus of a sound team. They are two years away from being really good.

3. The TSSAA rarely gets things correct. Their action against the girl’s basketball programs at Riverdale and Smyrna is one of those occasions.

4. Rob Manfred seems obsessed with making radical changes to baseball. I fear his tenure as Commissioner will be an unmitigated disaster.

5. Texas has played themselves from a preseason top 10 spot to the NCAA Tournament bubble. I would think the heat is back on Rick Barnes.

6. As I've said previously, Roy Williams is presiding over a declining North Carolina program. The Tar Heels look like just another team.

7. Mark Turgeon is finally having the kind of success most expected for him at Maryland. The Terrapins looked like a team ready for March in handling Wisconsin.

8. Manchester City dug themselves what is likely an inescapable hole in the first leg of their Champions League matchup against Barcelona. Hard to imagine a scenario in which they can turn around yesterday's result.

9. Villanova continues to impress. The Wildcats are experienced and balanced.

Not a stranger lot of folks in any walk of life than football coaches. Myopic doesn't do these single minded maniacs justice. Just read this. Link

Think about the biggest loser ever...juxtapose them with the NCAA in court and you get the picture. Those people CAN'T and DON'T win in court. Ask Todd McNair. Link

With Vandy in here in a couple of days (if we aren't buried in snow), the way games are played in Nashville is getting ready to change. At least from a coaching standpoint. This is going to look flat out weird in that gym. Courtside seats are going to have a somewhat obstructed view. Link

Every play reviewable in the NFL? Sure. Let's make games last 6 hours. Why not? Link

Keith Olbermann is a self-absorbed, pugnacious, self-righteous know it all. He just can't help himself. The man is a successful train wreck in his field. A brilliant communicator, he just can't go along to get along. Who grades grammar on Twitter? Link

What those teams did to get kicked out of the girls TSSAA Hoops Tournament is a way of life for the 76ers. They acquired a guy yesterday to get OVER the cap MINIMUM. What the hell is that? Link

Final Four

Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. More than every 2023 NBA Finals game and more than every 2023 World Series game. ESPN has had the rights to NBA games since 2002. But the Final Four game between Iowa and UConn was the networks most-watched basketball game, men’s or women’s, pro or collegiate EVER.... [more]

Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
