Annually at this holiday season we like to stand in the gap here at the tonybasilio.com radio family. This year we are serving a combination of families that fallen through cracks and won't have Christmas or anything at this holiday (whatever you celebrate) if we don't step up and take this on as a radio family. This year we are serving families the Fish Hospitality Pantry (as we've identified them) plus women from the Oasis Shelter in Clinton, TN. We will be serving 15 occupants of this residential shelter. These women are in a program that is a refuge for them in order to help them get their lives together. These are folks in great distress. Some are outrunning abusive situations. Some are self-inflicted as well. Everyone needs somebody at this time of the year to say 'you matter.' Oasis is the first step up the ladder to enabling these women to stabilize their lives. The Families from Fish Pantry have young children. Five families in all. Eight children spread out over these families ranging in age from 1 to 14. Boys and girls. We're not going to be overwhelming these kids with gifts. Maybe a few nice things.
Also, we will be having a party Friday night at Knoxville Mennonite Church. If you would like to participate in this special night, please call Jeff Gencay at 865 455-9923.
If you feel led to contribute to this most worthy cause, please e-mail me and let me know the amount and I will be covering this in an initial contribution on all of our behalf.
If you would like to contribute, please shoot me an e-mail to commonfan@gmail.com and let me know how much you plan on contributing.
Please e-mail checks to Tony Basilio, PO Box 26011, Knoxville, TN 37912
Thanks again for being there!
You make it worthwhile for us to serve the folks we have through the years.
20 years and counting!
Merry Christmas

It's bizarro world time in major college football. Can you believe Oregon State has made a more impressive hire than either Florida or Nebraska. Look at those guys side by side. It's not even close. Kind of stinks for Wisconsin that Gary Anderson left so soon.
Tennessee could learn from this back story on Anderson's departure at Wisconsin. You must invest in your staff these days or else face flight.

Former UT beat writer Mike Griffith joined me on the air Tuesday for a sparring session regarding Ohio State's selection in the playoff. As an aside, Griff called Iowa a 'bad' football team and said 'Butch Jones and Tennessee should be able to rock their world.' Wow. Thems (sic) fightin' words right there.
Patrick Vint of sbnation.com joined me on the air yesterday and he's less than impressed with Iowa this year. In fact, he shared that Kirk Ferentz as the greatest agent of all time. He parlayed a 10 win season a few years back into a 10 year deal that will pay him a $13 million buyout should Iowa choose to terminate him next year. Iowa is on the hook through 2020 with him. Sheer insanity in college football. Just crazy. Patrick said the Gator Bowl is tough matchup for the Hawkeyes. The more I hear about that team and their disappointing year, I get the feeling Tennessee could lay the wood to them.
Then I think about the dearth of playmakers on the offensive side of the ball for the Vols and the thoughts turn to how it could be a close game. Whatever the case, I'm going all in on this one. There's no way Tennessee should lose to this Iowa team. They've underachieved this year while the Vols have gotten above their rasin'. Tennessee's team and fans are (as we say in these parts) fixin' to take that place by storm. That spells curtains for Iowa. Or at least it should.
Phillip Fulmer is admiring the 2014 Vols.

Tennessee hoops welcomes another NCAA Tournament caliber basketball team to Knoxville on Sunday. They do so against the backdrop of the circus that is the early Donnie Tyndall era. KNS did some interesting digging here. Credit Dave Hart for covering UT's flank on this one.

Butch Jones buyout resets at $4 million. As I reported last week. The buyout has increased. Therefore it will painful, not impossible. Painful for someone to come in and steal him away.

Here's more on the raise for Jones. Time to belly up for the staff.

Incarnate World beat Nebraska in hoops last night. Brian Neubert of Rivals said the tally of terrible home losses for the Big 10 in non-league is mounting. Some embarrassing upsets. 'North Florida, Incarnate Word, Eastern Michigan, NJIT, Eastern Washington and St. Peter's have all won in Big 10 venues.'
Viva Incarnate Word! Whoever they are!...

'Thank you for having Coach Huesman on your show yesterday. It is
great to get some love in big brother's backyard.
Michael Ford'
Michael...It was my pleasure. Thanks for being there! I thought Russ was interesting and engaging. I can see why and how he's been so successful there. Pretty good time for Chattanooga sports. That's a great story. They get a crack at #1 New Hampshire on Friday night on ESPN. They will be the only football on TV that night.
Jameis Winston is a 'nightmare' for the NFL. Jon Reed and some Titan fans want him. Yawl can have that clown. He won't be a player in the NFL.
