Can I brag on somebody at my alma mater today? I would like shine the light on one Vol while I request prayer for another. AW Davis is a wonderful guy. Anybody that knows him understands what I'm talking about. Just a solid man! And he loves his Vols! Boy does he love his Vols. AW could've played anywhere out of high school back in the mid 60's and he chose Tennessee. Very few say no to Kentucky but he did. Nobody said no to the Baron Adolf Rupp back in the day. Especially since Tennessee basketball hardly existed back as Ray Mears took the Tennessee job. Against this back story I will proceed to brag on a couple of our own.

Firstly thanks to the caller known as GQF who has made friends in recent years with AW. Not a surprise. GQF/AKA David cares. He's a little nutty but he's a good egg. The guy really does care. GQF is so moved by the plight of his friend that he got in his car and drove from Jefferson City to get an audience with Donnie Tyndall. GQF or Jeeker as we call him wanted to request Tyndall's well wishes for AW Davis who underwent cancer surgery yesterday. Jeeker was met at Tyndall's office by his office manager who told Jeek that she would have Tyndall call him as soon as he came in. Well, Tyndall called him. And Jeeker shared with Tyndall the gravity of AW's situation. What did Tyndall do? He picked up the phone and called AW Davis. Not only did he call Davis and pick him up but he also followed through with a phone call to Jeeker. Donnie Tyndall...You go boy!!! Jeeker... Job well done... AW Davis... Get well soon man because we've got another great era of Tennessee hoops to enjoy beginning this Fall! Get back man!!! If you're reading this today and you're a praying person, please pray for AW Davis! What a great man indeed.

It looks like my little dream of making the Sunday Night season opener our little tradition just isn't going to happen under Dave Hart's watch. I don't mind a little bit of travel/neutral site games but 2017 in Atlanta for Georgia Tech is a little bit excessive IMO. Still, they are close to putting this deal together. Great for recruiting I suppose but not the most fan friendly thing in world. Then again, who cares about the fans? Link

The time for mere talk is almost at an end for football teams across the country. Starting tomorrow night, words will be replaced by results as the currency of the game.

1. Even when it pains me to do so, I always try to give credit where it is due. Bruce Pearl is doing a truly remarkable job of rebuilding the Auburn roster with winning SEC caliber talent.

2. It is a wonderful gesture by Patrick Ewing and David Falk to donate $3.3 million to Georgetown in honor of John Thompson. Far too many people get to the top of the mountain and forget the people who helped them make the climb.

3. Gregg Doyel says Ohio State, even without Braxton Miller, is an 11-1 team. I'm not sure if that is a compliment to the Buckeyes or a smack down of the Big Ten.

4. Adding Nick Marshall keeps the flow of talent into Josh Pastner's program going. At some point, you have to think Memphis fans are going to demand that the coaching catch up to the recruiting.

5. The Josh Shaw story at USC is simply bizarre. Regardless of what the truth turns out to be, this is one straight out of Rod Serling's playbook.

6. Pete Rose is simply a sad and pathetic figure at this point. His thinly disguised begging for reinstatement is actually dignified compared to his nonsensical babble about how much he can help the game.

7. Its good to see Keith Olbermann is back to making pompous, self important proclamations. Baseball reinstating Pete Rose is about as much a "moral necessity" as the NCAA welcoming Dave Bliss back into college basketball with open arms would be.

8. One has to wonder why Alabama hasn't made a decision at quarterback. If it is due to neither player in the hunt meeting the standards expected by the Tide, they are in for a massive disappointment in 2014.

9. Tennessee's use of a faux Rolling Stone cover featuring Beyonce in the recruitment of Shy Tuttle is top flight stuff. That's the kind of creativity you have to have in today's recruiting universe.

Please tune in to Show Cause on Friday afternoon from 1-3. I think you'll be glad you did.

Keith

Actually Keith, college football gets under way tonight as Georgia State and Abilene Christian square off tonight in Atlanta. Why you ask? Here's your answer. Link

Vandy Joe gets repudiated by Dan from Sale Creek in today's T-Mail.

'This clown that writes in and refers to himself as Vandy Joe is out of touch with reality. Wait, I’m sorry, what Vandy fan is in touch with reality? Without further ado, I would like to congratulate him for the Vandy National championship in baseball. It was their first National championship ever, in any sport, and will probably be their only championship during his lifetime. Now back to what a clown this guy is. He talks so much smack about UT and there is no doubt that we have been pretty bad lately. However, last year it took a controversial call in Neyland Stadium for a good Vandy team to get a victory over a bad Tennessee team.

What does that tell you about the difference between the 2 programs Vandy Joe? I'm just saying! As for the wide receiver Van Jefferson who he claims got out of our back yard, well as far as recruiting goes, it ain't over until signing day. Another thing Vandy Joke, and no that’s not a typo, let me give you a few numbers to think about.

The first one, Tennessee’s recruiting ranking for the 2014 football class, #5. Vandys ranking for the 2014 recruiting class, #49. Tennessee's current ranking for the 2015 recruiting class, #6. Vandys current ranking for the 2015 recruiting class, #64. Brace yourself Vandy Joe, aka Vandy Joke. Last but not least, Tennessee leads the all time series against Vandy, 73-30-5. Think about that, Vandy would have to beat us 43 consecutive years just to be tied. Wow! Now, that's a real Vandy JOKE there Vandy Jo(e)ke

Go Vols

Dan

Sale Creek'

Damn Dan!!! That's stronger than frozen rope son. Vandy Joe has feelings. Now, they may be delusional feelings but they're feelings nonetheless.

'Tony,

Do you believe that Tennessee's situation at wide-out had a negative impact on Van Jefferson's decision? I honestly think it may have been in the back of his mind that we will more than likely return some studs next year. Possibly returning North, Pearson, Croom,Howard, Smith, Malone, Jenkins , Wharton. Also factor in Preston Williams and the emergence of Wolf and Helm. I'm not sure there are enough footballs.

My Wife and I are making the trek to Knoxville on Sunday. We are also bringing my son who is 3.5. He's so excited has been singing Rocky Top on the loop . I'm really looking forward to sharing this time with him.

GBO!

PS. Huge fan of the show! I have the app and read the blog daily!!

Bill in Nashville'

Bill: Thanks for being there! People like you make this all worthwhile brother!

To quote Joe Kenda 'Oh my' the QB @ WVU desires pain. This is both comical and troubling. Good clean fun. Link

From hero to zero to hero to..... Only in sports...Why do we love this stuff so much...Great material everywhere. Link

Josh Shaw's sister is standing by him. Link

Is hazing alive and well in football. Don't hear about this much anymore. Another scandal brewing at UNC? Link

Jews are cheap. I've never heard that one. Is this supposed to be funny? Link

Just what the NHL needs. Another expansion franchise. Interestingly this one is going to Las Vegas. First ever franchise of the four major sports. Link

Dylan Thompson is on display tomorrow for South Carolina. This is a nice look at a kid who is easy to root for. Link

Here are 6 rising mid major coaches to watch. Link

Hate to admit it but Bruce Pearl is getting it done big time at Auburn. Jeez. Has Auburn in top five in recruiting. Long way to go till November but still....The guy is as good as it gets when he gets some momentum. Link

When you feel like you've got the right guy, you have to leave him alone and let him do his job. Link

Interesting SEC links from ESPN's college football writers. Link

Enjoyed it!!

Final Four
Posted: Sun, Apr 7th, 12:12 PM
Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. More than every 2023 NBA Finals game and more than every 2023 World Series game. ESPN has had the rights to NBA games since 2002. But the Final Four game between Iowa and UConn was the networks most-watched basketball game, men’s or women’s, pro or collegiate EVER.... [more]

Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
