31 days and this is getting serious!

Butch Jones and select players meet the depressed today. We will have live and full coverage today on the Tony Basilio Show. Hope you're with us. Getting close. Going to be an interesting camp.

Oklahoma will more than likely be without highly touted freshman RB Joe Mixon when UT heads to Norman. Reading this story, this kid might be a nice replacement for Ray Rice one day. They could compare notes and records versus women. Link

Great appearance by Patrick Brown of Chatty Times free press. Guy knows his stuff. Today he looks at five questions that must be answered in camp for the Vols. Link

Arian Foster is what he is. I guess I should appreciate this about him. Only he seems to go out of his way to be unlikable. This is a guy that talked to the Knoxville press using pterodactyl. That guy has a screw loose for sure. Then there's the interview last year he gave about almost starving to death while playing at Tennessee. David Cutcliffe even chimed in on that one and knocked him down. Foster might be the most lightly regarded accomplished professional athlete to come through UT in the modern era. Most Tennessee fans seem distant from him as far as fondness. You almost get the point that he wants it that way. What an enigmatic young fella he is. The media in Houston has learned that he's strange too. Yesterday cemented this. Link

It will be interesting to see the reaction toward Lane Kiffin when he returns. Are we past it with the resurgence under Butch Jones and does he get relatively ignored? Does somebody try to get at him? Is there a deranged fan out there crazy enough to try something? Does he get booed? Do Vol fans throw stuff at him? Or are we past all this? I don't know what to make of this in light of what is written above. Link

Tee Mail Time:
'Tony, what are the odds Chuckie Keeton plays his 5th year in Knoxville next year? Next year’s QB draft class has Mariota, the FSU Rapist, Brett Hundley, Bryce Petty, Connor Cook, Sean Mannion, Braxton Miller etc. Why not come to Knoxville and play on a big stage, raise draft stock, and throw to the best WRs in the country? Can you imagine the numbers a guy like him would put up throwing to North, Pig, Malone, Pearson, Preston Williams, Croom, etc?

Matt in Clinton'

Got to do some research into this one Matt but if you can make this happen, by all means. Nobody in these parts is going to complain. I'll run this by Mike Huguenin of nfl.com/cfb247 today. He loves this Keaton. I get the feeling that if Keaton has a big season, he will get a shot in the NFL. But who knows? Maybe we can start a movement on the air today to draft him here next here. That would be fun, wouldn't it?

A member of UT's faculty checks in with this observation on the Dooley era.
'Tony,

Great, great show on the Dooley Era. Never let the living fan forget that Dooley, in his infinite wisdom, would hold practice inside Neyland Stadium on Thursday mornings before away games. They pumped in crowd noise, fight songs from the opposing team, everything. The noise was so loud it blared all over campus, caused classes on the Hill to be canceled, total disruption. What a great idea.

Also, one thing that stuck with me was that GA that called in and said Dooley wanted to talk academics for hours. Didn't the APR sink to record lows under Dooley? Irony.

Name and Title withheld at writer's request.'

Melvin checks in on a conversation we had yesterday about music. I love all types of music and can listen to virtually anything. That said, I really struggle to enjoy most Nashville made commercial country these days. Most of what I hear sounds like soulless pop. No offense to the people involved but they could do better. Only it's a formula that obviously works. It all sounds full of wax. That entire auto tune filled drivel just needs to go away.
'It all has the same basic sound, beat. It’s awful. If you don’t follow it close you can’t tell one singer from the rest. Nobody has their own sound. You used to be able to tell some artist by first few notes of their music. Writing has gone in the toilet as well. The formula now is a backward hat, a rock beat, as stupid song about getting drunk or your tractor stuck in the mud, holler hell yeah at your crowd and get the money. Most of these turds never worked a day in their life or couldn’t start a tractor. Give me some Jim Reeves and let’s make the modern country music world go away.

Melvin'

This is a great story! A living, breathing Rocky of baseball. This is why you never quit dreaming. Link

This kid is 13 and he's 7 feet 4 inches tall. Whaaa? This video is the greatest. Link

So, why was Fidel Goodell so lenient on Ray Rice anyway? Link

QB gurus are popping up everywhere and some head coaches aren't going for it. Link

Jameis Winston was stopped by police at gunpoint back in 2012. Nice. Link

You never know what you're going to see at a minor league game. opossum on the field. That's a first. Link

I'm not really sure what Ruin Tomorrow Jr. is doing at the controls in Philly. He's terrible. The whole Phillies organization is awful. Zero deals to this point with the deadline looming. They should've eaten tons of stupid salary and turned over that putrid roster. Nothing worse in sports than no hope. Link

Lil B and Kevin Durant are feuding. And yes, it's a slow sports day! Link

Sharknado II! Did you record it? Did you see it? Love campy movies....Terribly fun watch last night.

Final Four
Posted: Sun, Apr 7th, 12:12 PM
Friday night’s Iowa-UConn Final Four game had 14.2 million viewers. That’s more than any women’s college basketball game, ever. More than every 2023 NBA Finals game and more than every 2023 World Series game. ESPN has had the rights to NBA games since 2002. But the Final Four game between Iowa and UConn was the networks most-watched basketball game, men’s or women’s, pro or collegiate EVER.... [more]

Missouri Game Preview

The Vols did what they were expected to do against UConn. There's not really much to say about that game. The game this Saturday in Columbia, Missouri will decide whether or not this season is a failure in my opinion. If they Vols lose, they are staring at 8-4 and probably the Gator Bowl. Maybe Reliaquest..... [more]

The Vols are coming back to Neyland Stadium and I am returning after a discretionary bye week. I'll be honest with you. This year it seems like I've been writing the same preview over and over because the formula to win has been the same pretty much every SEC game. I didn't want to sound like a broken record so I needed a bit of a break from that.

I'll start with some general observations..... [more]
