Live in Birmingham Day 2
47 Days! Jeez....Time is flying by.....
It was an inverted pyramid yesterday at SEC Media Days in Birmingham. That's the way they taught us to write news stories in journalism classes at UT. You put the most important things first. Slive kicked off the media days with a fire and brimstone address warning the little schools not to get in the way of big 5 conference autonomy. Either gives us our way and get run over or give us our way and get cut out. At the same time, Slive wants to hold onto the notion of amateurism in major college football. You didn't Bob Dylan here yesterday to tell you that the times are a changin here.

Today should be more interesting at SEC Media Days. South Carolina, Miss State, A&M and Tennessee all on the mic. Mack Crowder, AJ Johnson and Curt Maggit will represent Tennessee well today at the event. Of course, Butch Jones is always a lot of fun. Should be a great day of stuff for the Vols. I feel great for Crowder getting an opportunity to come and represent the offensive side of the football. Fab Five Freddy brought up an interesting observation that Justin Worley isn't here. Usually the QB is here unless he's either new or caught driving through some jurisdiction with windows that are too dark smokin' some bud. So, Worley's not here. Why? Probably that coaches don't want to lay too much on him in terms of his tenuous playing time. Either way, I'm happy for Crowder. You know it has to be a thrill for a kid from Bristol that made one start last year to get this opportunity. Love it!!!
Riley Ferguson could've been here this week but instead he's about to relaunch at Charlotte.

It seems like Vandy made a personable hire. Don't know how effective Derek Mason will be there but he is a pretty decent feller. The guy engaged my son in a decent conversation about golf on Sunday night. So, he treats people with respect away from the dais, media and public eye. People like that get my vote. Now, does he succeed at Vandy now that UT is back to being UT in this state and regions? And what does it mean to succeed at Vandy? You're not going to win like James Franklin won. Just not going to happen there. Franklin is Bruce Pearl of football. Case closed. Still Derek Mason was pretty strong in his first day on the job.

ESPN believes Franklin stole the show.

Gus promises that Marshall and Mincy will pay the price but you can put it in stone. Neither guy will miss significant time for Auburn. Simply too valuable. Still, Gus put on a good front yesterday at SEC Media Days.

If I'm a betting man (which I'm not thank God), I'd say Will Muschamp just 'enjoyed' his final SEC Media Day as a head football coach at Florida. Bottom line is that his team isn't good enough to win the # of games he needs to win to keep the wolves at bay. Most prognosticators have Florida winning 7 or 8. I believe those folks down there want to see 10 wins at least. Against that murderous schedule featuring both Alabama (away) and LSU (home), it ain't happening for him. But Muschamp did take it all in stride yesterday.

This writer on the Bayou is wondering if Florida can look like Florida again. I think they'll be lucky to win 8 games. Put it this way, I'm picking Tennessee to beat Florida in Neyland stadium. Book it!

This is fun! NCAA investigation Mad Hatter's time at Ok State. Is it me or has every successful regime at OK State come under NCAA investigation?

Eric S returns today for some high comedy.
'It's only a matter of time before Harvey Updyke shows up to poison something.

On the one hand, he probably deserves to be sent packing. You're working a job. You work for a contractor. You represent that company. That company worked hard to get the contract to do the job at A&M. They'd probably like to keep their relationship solid with their customer (and future customers) and deliver good results. You ain't the only crane operator in the world. And this ain't Alabama.
On the other hand, I for one welcome all the bad behavior that Alabama fans can dish out. Like Rocky Balboa to Clubber Lang, "Ain't so bad." Is that all you've got? Show me some more Harvey Updyke. Show me some more Brian Downing. Show me some more Adrian Laroze Briskey. (The woman who shot another Alabama fan who was not distraught enough after the Iron Bowl loss to Auburn.) Show me some more crane operator trolls. Show me some more subpoena stuffers. (Like the one Bammer did to Fulmer at one of his last SEC Media Days appearances.) I say bring them all out and let them do their worst and show the true colors and lack of class. Because this is true Alabama. It's not a flaw, it's a feature. It's not an aberration, it's a trend. It's not the exception, it's the rule. Sure, it's easy to say that being a Tennessee fan, but it is becoming very easy for other fan bases to say it too. In short, it's not being a hater to call the Alabama fans the Legion of the Deranged-regardless of who you root for.
Go Vols!

Are you sure that wasn't the college baseball World Series home run derby last night? Did you see Todd Frazier beat G Stanton with ONE HOME RUN in the semi-final round last night. I understand that MLB wants to create an event with this home run derby but here's the rub. Either put your stars in the game or just play celebrity softball. I would probably rather watch Beyonce sing live than that slop last
night.
Thanks to Randy Dalton and Dalton Bearing and Hydraulics for allowing me to be here this week! Great stuff!
ESPN folks were telling media yesterday that Tim Tebow isn't here this week because there isn't enough security. Insert your own punch line please.
