Today's show and blog are both dedicated to Bobby Denton who passed away earlier this morning. A true legend. The Voice of Neyland Stadium for a generation has been silenced. We are all saddened by the loss of this irreplaceable presence in our community.
A local 15 year old young man is stricken with Cancer and the community needs your help as the rally around the family. The event is called 'Skate For Andy!'
Skate for Andy is an event hosted by Cool Sports and KAHA that will take place at Cool Sports (110 S Watt Rd, Knoxville, TN) on Saturday April 26th at 3-5:00 pm.
The open skate will cost $ 10.00 and that includes a free skate rental. All proceeds will benefit the Whitcomb family and their efforts at getting to MD Anderson. Andy is a student at Webb High School and one of our hockey hero's with Knoxville based KAHA.
KAHA's slogan is "Giving Kids a Goal" and our goal is to raise $5,000.00 for Andy’s cause.
Donations can be made at the event and free t-shirts will be handed out to the first 250 people registering to skate.
Please come out and support this local hero as he and his family battle through this difficult time.
Information can be received by calling Nadia at Cool Sports at (865) 218-4500
I LOVE the movement of UT's season opener with Utah State to Sunday Night! I realize several folks who come from the mid-state and beyond are feeling the pinch because they have to travel but this is a Sunday night game on a holiday weekend. Most people (especially those who can afford major college football tickets at the going rate) are probably off on that day. So, come from wherever you are to Knoxville and enjoy the weekend!
If you made me king or mayor of Knoxville, here's what that weekend would look like.
Friday Night: Live Music w/ various artists set on a blocked off Stadium Drive! Just get some local artists to play perhaps some regional acts hunting exposure. This is the first year of this so just get it off the ground.
Saturday Night: Boomsday! Street festival theme continues and culminates with largest fireworks display in Southeast! What a great gift this is for the fans that are making Knoxville a destination! How impressive would something like this be to recruits who get to watch that amazing sight from the Knoxville waterfront. I'm not a huge crowd person but I will say that this is something that could make a recruit fall in love with this place.
Sunday Night: National televised opener that will be great business for UT and ultimately this fan base.
UT is naming an award for Al Wilson. The Al Wilson Leadership Award. It will be given out at halftime of the Orange & White Game. Love it!
To the church crowd upset by this turn I say this, freedom in Christ! Relax. The world's not going to end if we celebrate and fellowship with a football game on one Sunday night per year. In fact, each church around the state could use this game as an outreach by inviting folks to come and enjoy the game with them as they do the Super Bowl.
KNS is polling on the Sunday game. Here are the results.

40-0 UConn pretty tough to beat that! Geez. How ironic is it that Geno breaks Pat's record by cutting down the nets in Nashville. Al Brown warned Pat Summitt all those years ago that she shouldn't play UConn and elevate their status as a program in the mid-90's. In 20 straight years, Geno has won 9 National Titles. That's just insane. And the guy cried his eyes out last night after bidding adieu to his senior class. They won their first National Title in 1995 and 19 years later, Geno beats Pat's record. That had to be a disgusting site in Knoxville for ardent fans of the women's game. That's an absolute modern day dynasty that guy has built.
Ready for a mind boggling stat...UConn is now 13-0 in National Title Games.....4-0 for men....9-0 for women. That simply amazing.
If you've given up hope at UT, remember that prior to 1995, UConn had ZERO National Titles in both men and women's hoops.
UConn has had 5 undefeated National Title teams. The rest of Women's college hoops has only done this 3 times COMBINED. That's just sickening.
Smokies Open in Kodak tonight! Get out there if you get the chance for some great spring baseball!
Dave Serrano joins today on the show as we celebrate UT's series win over Vandy. The young Vols have shown a lot of guts already in this season. No matter what happens from here, this has been a step forward for the program. Make no mistake about it. Vols won 3rd straight last night beating Tenn Tech 10-1 holding Tech to just 4 hits.
We knew the B-Ball Vols were a top 25 team this year. Look how highly ranked this respected writer has them in his final poll.

Mid State Heath checks in.
'Now Tony, I've noticed something about ladies basketball. It seems one reason for the lack of parity is all you need is one dominating star player.
Breanna Stewart-nobody can stop her but herself.
Brittany Griner was figuratively if not literally the man. I honestly believe there was an NCAA conspiracy to avoid litigation there.
Mya Moore, Chamique, Parker, Taurasi- get the one dominating recruit and you get a National Championship.
Maybe that's why Summit was so hot about the Geno recruiting tactics. He got Moore. You know the rest if the story.
MidState'
Always great to hear from you Mid State Heath. You're range is amazing! Most times in women's hoops the team with the best player wins. It's not the most competitive game in the world. UConn was literally 20 points better than everyone this year. Muffet embarrassed herself by not cheering for Stewart over the weekend when she got National Player Of The Year.
Every once in a while when you search cyber space you find out stuff that shouldn't be there.

RIP Bobby Denton. The Voice of a Neyland Stadium has been silenced. What a pioneer in broadcasting and a tremendous presence in our community. Anybody who knew Bobby knew that he was a wonderful ambassador for this place. Gone but NEVER forgotten!
