Say what you will about former Vol Jerry Colquitt, but he's not afraid to state his opinion. He's passionate that UT is doing the wrong thing by playing Worley tomorrow before he could be ready. Jerry thinks UT's coaches could be doing Worley a disservice with this move. I think it's certainly possible. In fact, I don't expect Worley to play well tomorrow night at all. If he does, from my perspective it will be blind luck. Because he's not going to be properly prepared. There's no way he could be. Not enough reps. Not even close. Jerry Colquitt's Friday Morning Quarterback Justin Worley – I feel bad for this kid. Why? Because he like many others are victims of those who coach them or recruit them. Its stories like these that don’t get enough attention in my opinion. Unfortunately, he will be unfairly blamed for losing Saturday, which looks inevitable. What will he think of the truth of his coach’s words (Derek Dooley) that he promised he’d look after him like a son when he recruited him? An action like this is why nothing and I mean nothing shocks me about coaches in college. How can you stick him in the game for mop up duty backed up against Alabama in a beat down if he has a bright future? Coach Dooley are you going to get that year back? Are you going to play Worley in significant parts of games in 2012 when the opportunities arise like Coach Spurrier played Doug Johnson sporadically with Danny Wuerrfel? If Worley CAN play, you better because what happened to him Saturday is just bad and purely knee jerk reacting. Welcome to college football my fellow Vol! Whatever the outcome, Mr. Worley, I will always side with you, Simms and Bray and the guys in uniform when a coach uses players as scapegoats for lack of preparation, in-game adjustments and lack of foresight as reason to deny you the opportunity to have two years to start for this university. Heck, that’s why you go to college to play, not sit for three years and play one. Former Vol Steve Matthews in the spring of ’91 transferred to a JUCO, had a stellar season and eventually wound up at Memphis University throwing to WR Isaac Bruce, backed up Mark Brunnell and saw action with both Jacksonville and Kansas City. Not bad! Faux Press Conference Questions for Coach Dooley: Why did you go after Simms as if he was the source of problem on the 4th and 1 play against Alabama when they called timeout before we snapped the ball???…what about the assistant coaches or the coordinator for not getting the personnel right (LSU game 2010) AGAIN? Why did you immediately target him? It did not appear that any coach got an earful like he did, is that correct? At what point Coach are you going to put Matt Simms back in against South Carolina….because you know you’re going to have to, right? Coach, Is Da’Rick Rogers on half scholarship and Zach Rogers on full scholarship…then why does Zach Rogers take time away time from Da’Rick Rogers? Da’Rick said on twitter Justin Worley looked better in practice than he anticipated he would, sounds bad but can you expound? Do you have something personal against Mr. Worley that would make you actually start him against this front four? If this defensive team has trouble playing standard defenses against quality opponents, why not dial up the pressure after the sudden change of momentum after ‘Bama’s first score after halftime and go down with your guns blazing? BCS Rankings: Is the system rigged? How can Wisconsin lose to a conference rival on the last play of the game and not even be in the top 10 the next week. Doing more with less: If you get a chance, watch Stanford. The staff has a knack for getting a lot out of their less than glamorous offensive personnel (minus Andrew Luck). Tony Basilio.com Half-season SEC Offensive Player of the Year: LSU RB Spencer Ware…close 2nd Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson Megaconferences: Does anybody care? We’ve been so overloaded with games from Thursday to Monday night we are numb to the horizon of change. LSU or Bama?: I don’t think Bama can score enough and it’ll turn into an interception festival against their ball hawkish secondary. When you watch these kinds of SEC regular season games it makes the championship game less than stellar!!! Jerry asked me last night on the phone, 'wouldn't you get Simms ready in practice this week in case he has to go back in?' My answer. 'Ah no way. I've seen what he can do. And now that UT is changing QB's, let's go for it.' That said, I don't know if I would do what Dooley's doing tomorrow night. In fact, I wouldn't. And for the record, I believe Worley struggles tomorrow night. And Jerry has a great point about that 4th down play. If you're calling something like that, don't substitute. That's a little thing that you need to have down before you get in that spot. That's really a not ready for primetime thing that Dooley and his staff need to seriously learn from. Fans who criticize stuff like this get an ear from me. Here's a different perspective on starting Worley tomorrow night. And the more I consider this, the more I'm inclined to agree. 'Hey Tony, To be honest, I don't think the reason to start Worley has much to with winning the game Saturday as does winning the Vandy game. It's getting Worley's feet wet over these next couple weeks gearing up for the intrastate showdown. Here's what I think the coaches' mindset is: A win over USC or Arky is unexpected regardless of who's QB. A win over MTSU and Kentucky, on the other hand, is a near certainty. That leaves the Vandy game as the decider on whether we go to a bowl and have that extra practice time....all this stuff about scarring Worley is for the birds. Head cases will never succeed at QB regardless of the presence of ego boosts early on. Dooley evidently didn't think Simms could get a win versus Vandy and I tend to agree with this apparent assessment (do you, Tony? Could Simms beat Vandy?), so let's give Worley the best shot at doing so -- experience. Peace James' Big Ziti Chimes in on all the above and the uni's too. 'Couple thoughts re: the topics on the show Thursday...... 1. Black unis are cool. Why can't we make the black jersey a mini-tradition?? Just wear them at home when we play the week of Halloween. And if you're gonna do them, do them right. Don't send the team out there in some crap that got slapped together in 48 hours. 2. It's fun to discuss the QB situation but truth is that Dooley has no choice. He has to play Worley. Simms is a senior on a bad football team and it's time to get Worley some snaps. And hey, its not like we are throwing some walk-on out there. This kid is an early enrollee that was Gatorade player of the year last season. And we've got to give props to Simms. That kid has a lot of guts. He has been a great team player and took an absolute beating last season while the coaches got Bray ready. 3. Is Jeek a real person??? 4. Loved the show Thursday. -Ziti' 1. Black and orange looks OK on the Philadelphia Flyers. And that's about it. 2. Derek Dooley always has a choice over who is QB is. Not buying that. 3. Unfortunately Jeek is a real person. He's all in, all the time. 4. I thought Thursday's show was fun as well. Lot's of intelligent conversation. RIP Gene Felty. Link God's blessings to Pat Summitt. Link Cuonzo Martin seems like a decent guy. You can't help but pull for him.
